How can you say that's virtually worthless? He obviously tows with it. You don't know what it looks like under that tonneau. Could be full of tar for all you know.
Point taken. I still think it's a cool truck and would be a blast to drive(really don't like the color):D

Nope wrong end of the year range

Front end clip, wheel well shape, cab shape, etc. is how I was judging it. How can you tell what end of the range it's on? What sets off a '68 from a '72?

Dude, you do realize this is a four wheeling site, right? It's not that we like the look of dents or "big meats" but we NEED those for our kind of fun, and dents are just something that happens.

The grill, fenders, and hood are how you can tell. The truck in your avatar looks to be a 71 or 72

this is a pretty exciting thread, i personaly dont like the truck, but i know allot of hard work and time went into building it. belive me i know me and ym dad are working on restoring trucks, it aint easy and its allota work and frustration to get the stuff to fit right. If the owner likes it thats all that matters...that being said in the C**n area of where i live there is a realy nice k5, except its been lowered and im pretty sure still has the 4x4 components under it:doah: thats the kinda stuff i dont get...wow i basically just wrote 2 very contradicting statements:haha:

Btw im 16 and i know i dont know anything, thats why im like addicted to this site everyday i come on here nad learn something new. Yall just gotta know when to stfu andlisten and when to give yer .02...:haha: gay color btw.

the hood is laid back further than a 69-72, which identifies it as a 67 or 68, then the marker lights identify it as a 68, because 67s didnt come with fender markers.

Yes, that is true. But if your going strictly by the books, open up the front page. Dont scroll, but look down. I sure see "The full-size GM OFF ROAD community" That truck doesnt qualify as off road.

However...it does qualify for the "other rides" section. As I said before, I can appreciate all of the work that went into that truck...its just not what you typically see on a "off road" forum.

Im not sure what the acronym is, but PAD just brings the post back to the top. Kind of like BTT (back to top) so others can view and post it.

Hmmm. maybe im a ****ing newb for not nowing what PAD stands for.:doah:

Maybe you are the noob, pad is for padding your post count. Not really as much to do with btt or ttt or bttt or well you get the idea.

Thanks for the identification on the truck guys, maybe there is a site that lists the identifications of the trucks, I'll have to look. Oh, and I threw the grill out normally because I believe for the same year there can be many different patterns, same shape and location but the pattern can be different. Just look at LMC or ChevyDuty (exucse me, classic industries) and see what they offer, it's a ton of stuff.

-Avery

there are no "different patterns" within a single year. and the only way to tell them apart is to look at a bunch of them and get to know what's what.

Im just kiddin around man. It just seemed to fit in with the general "feeling" of this thread. And, thanks...I never actually knew what PAD meant. I just knew it brought old worthless threads back to life).:wink1: :D

GMC used different grilles from Chevy, even in those years.

I know in later years -- I don't pay much attention to 67-69/72 as they all look alike to me -- there were sometimes different grilles, based on headlight options or the like, even in the same year. Maybe that's what the OP was on about.

During the 67-72 truck range there was only 3 different style grilles, 67/68...69/70...and 71/72, those grouped years had something different and distinguished about each group. ;)

Heres an 67/68...
chev6701.jpg
Notice the hood doesnt have as much definition and the drill has a band that is skinny and molded into the fenders.

Heres a 69/70...
brownie12.jpg
More defined hood and fender, thick aluminum band that goes across the grill.

Heres a 71/72...
Picture038-1.jpg
notice same style hood and fenders, different grill known as the "egg crate" style grill (my favortie personally). The blinkers got moved into the bumper as the 69 grill had them in the grill band.

Theres a way to tell each difference between the year groups but I dont remember, I do know that in 72 they moved the rear view mirror from the inside cab mount to a windshield mount in 72.

......and I still think you guys are gay and if you dont like my pictures you can still kiss my white ass. :p:

That was very informative, I think we should have a section on identification like we do for axles. It isn't as common of a "problem" to identify a vehicle's year but it sure wouldn't hurt to have it.

Something I did notice though is that you can just use the blinker lights for all three years not just the last one like you mentioned.
67/68 is in the corner
69/70 is in the center insert
71/72 is on the bumper

Cool stuff.

I totally dig the 69, 70 out of those 3...

Probably because it's lifted ;) That's the one I liked the most too, and then I realized it was the only lifted one.
