Thought I'd share my Weldernator

Onboard welders kick ass :waytogo:

Another option is externaly regulated Ford alternators. They are by far the easiest to use. 12v to the field post,a lead to the Pos. terminal, ground to the case, and spin it as fast as you need to :D

My 2002 post is missing all the pics but the details are there :D

The Ford alt. is in place of the smog pump.

Very nice. How many amps on the alternator? Am I correct in thinking that the higher amps for the alternator results in lower engine RPMs needed to produce the same voltage?

Just found this thread a few hours ago, then I figured I may as well do something productive. I just need a pulley and a longer belt and I can try it out. I welded a new tab down in the smog pump bracket and a quick brace for the top.

Got any pictures of your control box. I think I may be making one of these things, but have know idea what to do for the control panel. Getting an alternator is not problem figuring out what to do with it after that is.

I know of a CUCV with two alternators and a slave cable recepticle in the grill that was BORN for this mod ;)

It just needs to be converted to 12v first.

got my throttle control mounted and was able to test mine out today. I ran the engine at 1500 rpm and burned a few rods. I have the alt exciter wire on a seperate switch so it is only making power when the switch is on.

Now I just need to make a plug for my leads so it is a bit easier to hook up.

Nice nice very nice. I was curious.about the larger frame big rig alts as well. I just got my hands on a 12v 320amp Leece Neville. Figure I need to do something with it.

subscribed for w/e reason. I'll probalbly never do it cause i'm lazy but nice to know i CAN :D

Oh and BTW awesome ;)

Guys on here never cease to amaze me
4 years ago and I still forget about this. Now that I have learned to weld I shall try my luck at it. Just gotta figure out what truck I wanna put it on?
