Thoughts on moving The Blazer's rear speakers next to the rear seat?

Going to be removing the interior sides on The Blazer and replacing them with something. Not sure of what yet but eventually it will get replacement interior sides. When I do this I'd like to move the rear speakers...well, their replacements at least...up to the area around where the rear seat is. Anyone done this? Any "sonic" reasons why not to?

Seems to me like right now all I hear are the dash speakers and vaguely the two in the back. Not to mention the p-side is pretty much firing into the spare and all the crap kept between the wall and the spare.

Speaker wise we aren't talking anything fancy. Right now I have some Ford factory 6x8's from my '96 Ranger that HAVE to be better than the GM 4x10's in there. Eventually it'd be either a 6.5" or maybe a 6x9".

Thats where I have my rear speakers. A set of 6.5" JBL's, I like it. Now I just need to cover the hole where the old speakers were. Just might get the panels recovered though.

I currently have 6x9's mounted in that position, and they sound pretty good. When I redo the interior they will be moving to a different setup, but that position works well, and you can actually hear the speakers.

I am planning on removing the panels, fab up some storage pockets, then use spray on bed liner for noise deadener. Incorporating some speakers sounds like an addition i will ad to my design!

Good to hear it's a sound thought.

Not sure what my sides are going to be made of. Diamond plate will be expensive but are known to be good stuff, I've heard aluminum sheet metal, high density plastic, and regular sheet metal...not really sure.

Do it! I'd get some pioneer 6x9's, and call it a day. I put some $50 ones in my boat, and they rocked. Bought the comparable 6.5" for the burb doors, but havent' isntalled them.

Rear's are mainly for fill, although your rear seat passengers will appreciate them.....

Do it!

In my burb, i replaced the rear speakers with 6x9's on 100watts a piece off an amp, and i can't BELIEVE the amount of bass response i get from them being sealed in the burb side panels. So i recommend sealing them as well as you can.

Honestly with my hearing...and the diesel...I just want decent sound. I can't tell the difference between decent/good and super dooper crisp, clear, etc anymore so I guess I get off cheaply.

I usually prefer round speakers, something Jason said to me a long time ago, "soundwaves are round, your speakers should also be." That said I've had good luck with 6x8's and 6x9's so I'm not terribly picky. Does Infinity still make those 6x9 plates with the tweeters and 6.5" speakers on them? Had a 4x6 set of those a long time ago and liked them.

I've got an Alpine head unit , JVC amp , two 12" Rockford Fosgate subs in the rear , pioneer 6x9's right at the back seat like i mentioned in the post earlier and a pair of kicker 6 1/2 components in the kick panels and it sounds pretty darn good . definitely good enough to override the deisel and a bit of bad hearing. I had the same setup in a 86 blazer that i used to have , except the 6x9's were in the stock locations in the back and the 6 1/2 components were in the doors , and I gotta tell ya , the way I have it now in my 83 makes all the difference. I could hardly hear the rear speakers in the 86 blazer with them at the back.

I have an aversion to amps, subs, etc. Four speakers and a head unit and I'm good. Personal preferences and all that.

When I bought my '96 Tracker it had an amp, good dash speakers, 6.5's in the rear stock locations, and two 10" subs in the rear. I ended up pulling it all out because I didn't really notice the difference and just ran the good speakers in the stock location. Traded the amp and subs for a head unit for the ex's SUV.

I know 6.5's are round, but i said get efficient 6x9's because you will get more bass response out of them. Plus, you aren't sitting in the back seat. I would sacrifice a little quality for a little more low end.

I am using an alpine 9886 head unit and a Alpine type r 10 " sub , INfinity 6.5 in kappa separates

and the
6.5 infinity 3 way rounds

in the location you are talking . sounds excellent .

Infinity speakers are 2 Ohm gives you a little bit more volume from the Headunit..

really sounds excellent. Positioning them by the rear seats fills in the sound behind you .

I ended up getting some 6.5" 'ers from the local car audio guy I met. He raved about them and at $40 I figure if I don't like them I'm not out much. Gotta be better than the crappy 4x10's way in the back.
They're a Memphis product, but sold through their offbrand.

Oh, and I did move them up to the rear seat. Should be right about where the ashtray was. Pics as soon as I get the truck back and the interior reassembled.

Holy crap, did you know these things have rear speakers?

Got them in today and wow, what a difference. I now know they're back there.

Popped in a Glenn Miller CD (all I had in the garage) and wow, I hadn't realized how much difference there would be with rear speakers that were A-worth a **** and B-close enough I could hear them.

I thought you would be happy with your speakers in that location , I sure am !! It does make a great deal of a difference from the stock rear location !!

Yeah, it's nice to have surround sound. I had CD's in most of the way down here to Kentucky on Sunday and it was pretty good sound, even with the stock dash speakers.

Couple that with my deck having built in BlueTooth and it's proving pretty cool so far.

what kind of deck are you runnin g , i'm thinking of upgrading mine as my alpine is discontinued , and although it is bluetooth compatible with an adapter , it would probably be just as cheap to buy a newer model
