Thrillbilly Build Thread! 89' K5 on 44's, & tons. New motor FINALLY put in!!!

and how much lift does that net you up front? another inch or so?

I gained close to an inch. Basically I put them on to move the spring down and help slightly level the truck since the nose was a little lower than the rear of the truck.

THRILLBILLY build thread, Got me a Dana 60!

Well been awhile since any updates, progress is really slow right now, too many other things taking place. However I managed to get a small amount of free time yesterday and aquired this:

I wanted to sleep in the garage last night! The Dana 60 came out of a CUCV. 4.56 gears (probably need to regear with 44's anyways), has new bearings, but probably gonna need kingpins. Crossover is soon to come along with it and 35 spline outers! I am in 1 ton heaven, it's my first one ever! :woot:

Subscribed. I like the fact that you're taking after your dad and that he has encouraged you over the years. I'm the only one in my whole family that's ever really been remotely interested in 4wd and off roading, so I can tell you that you're lucky to have your dad on board. It's good to see your sister helping out and getting into the build too. You'll both look back on this time in the years to come and be glad that you were able to bond like that.

I got a D60/14bff combo from a CUCV about a month ago, and I was just like you, haha. I just wanted to sit there and look at it and thought about how I had wanted one for six years and now it was mine! Awesome truck, man.

Well time for an update. With Thanksgiving out of the way and family gone back to their home towns, I finally got some time to go to the garage and play.

started the teardown:

Got it pretty clean with the rough sanding:

Then started the painting to match the rest of the truck:

Bought all new kingpin parts from Spicer, new bearings for the hubs, and new calipers. The only thing I'm still waiting on is new hubs so I put the stock ones back on to keep dust and dirt out while it sits.

The finished product:

Ordered Sky Manufacturing's Crossover steering kit, U-bolts from ORD, spring plates from DIY4X, 4.56 USA Standard gears for the rear to match the front, and the 2WD steering box for the crossover! Brown santa and the blue eagle, has made quite a few visits this week!

Next on the list is finding a day to install all of my new goodies, and then go see what will break next...

Looking good man! Makin me look bad. haha

You may want to get a new tie rod also. That one looks bent up a little.

I like the colors and the paint on the axle. That's cool for sure. :thumb:

Steven, your leaving me behind with the plans for Mistress, I gotta do something cool to even stay in the game haha!

Yeah I noticed it before I painted it and didn't look too bad. Now with that bright green paint it REALLY stands out so ORD's beefy tie rod is coming up next! And thanks, I'm making a miniature Grave Digger! :thumb:

Took today to go ahead with the install on the D60!
