eesh, that sucked... :doah:

easy peezy... 14bff out of a 3/4 ton...

:doah:

But I had to laugh at the pics. :p

I'd say any bolt-in 14b FF would be cheaper and easier than a 9"...

Doing burn-outs?

haha nope no burnouts just got into it a little hard and something poped! drove it back in 4wd and the axles spit out coming in the driveway. havent ripped it apart yet. ill post those pics tomorrow!

i know the 9" isnt popular around here. i know the 14b is strong but heavy and for what i do i think the 9 will serve my purpose better

Its not popular cause its no where near bolt in. And, since when were we concerned about weight on these 6000lb rigs?

The 14 bolt can be bolt in, is bulletproof, and takes no custom work.

And, they are CHEAP.

No reason to reinvent the wheel here....

well i am concerned about unsprung weight. being bolt in or not doesnt really concern me it isnt my dd and i have most the stuff required for the swap. i dont believe id be reinventing anything im sure its been done succesfully. 9" are also cheap and plentifull at junkyards

I've seen a 9" case blow in light jeeps (cast not nodular) and a detroit locker blow in a ford truck. They are great in cars but not in heavy trucks unless you pour money in them. Upgrade the axles, locker, nodular case, carrier and then brace the housing since they are not that thick.

Maybe a d60 ff rear? Are they lighter than a 14bff?

But you can't beat the bombproof and cheap 14b. Paid $75 for mine.

And make sure you get axles of the same lug pattern as the front.

Blazer at the dunes with a 9". He beats the piss out of it too. I shoulda gotten pics.

i wont argue that the 9 has its limitations. i believe i can build it cheaply to suit my needs. and hey if i break it ill post pics and upgrade or repair from there.

i have a truss drawn and ready for cnc. and i have a nice mark williams third ive been waiting to use to ill start there

Do the tires ever grab in the dunes like on the road? Dirt, rocks?

I am asking as I have never ridden in any dunes but have been to the beach and there it was never hard on the axles.

Could think about the 14b semi floater. It is lighter, comes in a 6 lug, and I would rather it than the 9".

I am a diehard 9" fan. Jeeps and cars.

Definatley more give in the aand but ive seen lots of exploded axles.

Why not.a 6 lug 14 bolt.

Not dissing a 9. Seems like a good option also. Especially if you can get strong axles and 6 lug.
KTMoutfront has a very nice one with GM disc brakes

Really it doesn't take much to he better than a 10 bolt with big tires

i havent seen any 6 lug 14b at the junk yard i considered them and the ff14b.

i think im gonna go with the 5 on 5.5 axle and just swap the front rotors to match.

i still intend to lower it some on 35's

Im on the SF 14 bolt band wagon. Had one under my blazer on 35s for almost 4 years- i think. About 40 thousand miles of driving/ thrashing since its been in my ownership. Had it delivered to the place i worked for 4 or 5 bills...
About to need to change the brakes back there for the first time- and i better get back outside and put my new shockmounts on in case my driveshaft shows up tomorrow and i want to go romp on it.

A Guy i work with has a 6 lug sf 14 bolt in his 90 pickup... Im waiting for him to get crunched in it again so i can get my hands on the axle LOL.
