Im getting Dual Exhaust put on my K5 I just bought. I dont really want to route it out the sides, but was wondering if anyone had routed it out the back at a angle to the size, at the bumper corners. Otherwise im just going to shoot it straight out the back beside the receiver hitch.

Still deciding whether to get a Flowmaster 40 series or a Magnaflow.

I have Magnaflows. Had them like you describe pencil tip by the receiver. I got fumes sometimes and I could not drive it with the back window down. (ie; totin' crap from the Homely Depot) Changed them to angle 45* to the corners to 3" sliced baloney. Hate the megaphone style unless you be runnin Emmits and portholes.

So did running them out the corners at an angle take care of the fumes coming in the rear window?

do not run them straight out the back. you will not be able to breathe with the back window open. I wish I had done some research before I had mine done. it looks cool but it sucks to drive.

i still got fumes with them right behind the rear tires like this:

then i cut it off before the rear axle and its actually not as bad. i can ride with the window down, on the highway you cant even tell it. it gets really bad though when i mash the pedal down though.

i have magnaflow 3" single exhaust going out the back by the rear bumper its not too bad with the rear window down but you still get some exhaust smell in the truck. im not a fan of flowmaster but it sounds good too. i like the magna flow because at idle you cant even hear the engine in the cab with the windows rolled up but when you get on it you can hear the smooth sound of the magnaflow exhaust.

What about at low speeds like on trails and such?

ive not had the chance to take it on trails, dont have much of that. i usually just stick it in the mud. i would imagine the fumes would follow the truck and stink pretty bad.

Magnaflow. Cheaper and stainless steel while being straight through. No baffles, chambers, or fancy name.

Does Magnaflow make a 1 in and 2 out. Im just putting a cat back system on it.

I had a Magnaflow and loved it on my S Blazer only thing is I would like a little bit of a cackle when I get on it hard. Of course I do love that pur the Magnaflow makes too. I want a loud truck, just not obnoxious like glasspacks.

Can't answer you on the 1 in 2 out but I'd bet they do. Pretty sure they don't make a cat back for our trucks though. They've concentrated more on the newer stuff.

We had one on our '03 Suzuki Grand Vitara 4x4 and we liked the sound but it droned a bit. However that thing revved a lot higher than a 350 or 6.2L. Happy rpms at 60 was over 3000rpm.

The local exhaust shop is just going to do it for me, Im not buying a prebent system. I should of said that.

My Burb has a single 3" in/out Flowmaster, sounds good and is LOUD, but I don't have cats. Mine exits out the drivers side behind the rear tire, and I like it that way. The P/O is the one that put it in.. if I were to do it, I'd have a custom y pipe made since the stock one hangs down way too low.

I can't help you on the muffler selection since I havent had either.

But as far as where to exit:
1. Straight out the back was horrible when I did it. Fumes would kill you.
2. Exiting in front of rear tires was better but still not good.
3. At rear corners behind wheels was like #2.
4. I cut mine off a little to the inside of front spring hanger after a 90 degree bend toward the outside. So far this has been the best even on trails.

Think you could snag a pic of your current setup? I'm gonna need new exhaust before to long.

I have mine out the sides like Obijuans, but not as far. I snagged one on an edge on a local trail that bent it a little.

As everyone said, out the back is bad. I didn't know any better when I did mine, but fortunately the muffler shop refused the route it out the back.

we just bent 2.5 inch on a 84 blazer with headers and no cats, bent them on 45 degree angle between the bumper and the tire, used cheap knock off flowmasters and its louder than expected but you dont get the fumes with the rear window down. on my short bed we used headman elite long tubes and 3inch pipe to the rear and bent down 30 degrees behind the bumper it sounds awesome but you get fumes..

I have mine running out on each side behind the rear wheels. I just drove back from Orlando with the back window down out it wasnt too bad. Depending on my speed sometimes I would get fumes. I am sure running without a tailgate gasket doesnt help me any though.

Thats the best of the 4 setups I have tried. Definitely dont run them out the back.
