Tire advice? 12/10/25 Still looking- time to get serious

I have a lot of friends running the Milestar Patagonias. they all seem to like them.
@70jimmy is running them on his K5
There’s a whole Patagonia hate club on the interwebs, but I haven’t had a single issue and UA ran them in the sharp Arizona rocks last year without issues.

Thats why I bought Patagonias MT-02's
I also run the Patagonia A/TR's on my daily and they are great imo

I'm looking for tires again also. 35s on 17" wheels for the Rubicant. They are going on 17x9 Dirty Strife beadlocks. The Rubicant is mostly a daily driver in the summer when I don't need my truck and gets flat towed behind the motorhome. When it's offroad it gets driven on loose sand, muddy (clay) sand, or silt. We mostly use it for birding and that means barreling down "roads" tore to shit or going down whooped out sand side by side trails. My intent is to run them at ~16psi unless doing significant sand work.

Anyone complain about the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT? It's an older release tire at this point. Seems to take a lot of balance weight like a BFG.

I like Falken Wildpeak AT3w but they've been replaced by the AT4w and they are essentially a completely different tire. More designed for stupid heavy vehicles with a lot of power versus a fairly light Jeep (5000lbs with my fat ass in it) and no power. They make a 35x11.50R17 that actually measures 35" and it does entice me because it seems to be designed with a lighter vehicle in mind. But it's expensive and really only has been out a year and a half.

I don't like the new Duratracs and while the original Duratrac was great for its time (I have them on my truck) they are long in the tooth. The new ones I have seen at work appear to be an improvement in usability over the lifespan of the tire, but all the other problems still exist.

I can still get KO2s because 315/70R17 (measures about 34" in real life) is a factory tire. While a good tire, it's long in the tooth and my use case says there are better things. I specifically bought KO2s and two spares (8 total) for my motorhome because I specifically wanted the road performance of the KO2s.

The OEM KO3 is affordable, and it sucks. It's like a softer tread KO2. Between the Broncos, Poor Raptors (Ranger Raptors), and Wranglers there are a metric shit ton of these at work. The retail BFG KO3 is full boat pricing for 315/70R17 and while it has a good tread, I expect it will be kind of stiff for the Rubicant because they don't seem to make a LRC yet. I'd probably buy these at Costco.

There are newer release Yokohamas, Generals, and trusty Milestar Patagonias... but they seem to all be as good or worse than the aging Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT.

I love my Mickey Thompson baja boss AT.
Had them for 2 years still going good, I have about 35k on them and I had been running them a little on the high side of pressure to get better fuel mileage, so a little less tread in the middle.
I think they have another 10-15k in them.
I haven't had any terrain I hit where I felt they weren't adequate, they are relatively quiet.
I do have a LT255/85/17 which measures 34.6" and narrow which I wanted.
Being on a full size suburban 2500 obviously E rated but you probably want a D rated for your smaller jeep

I saw some Cooper Discoverer Rugged Trek tires on a truck and they looked pretty good. I really like Cooper tires. I think they own Mickey T also. The KO3 does suck now days. I heard they went to shit after Michelin bought them since Michelin didn't want them to be better than their own tires.

That's good to hear. I am going to be stuck with these for a long time so I don't want something I'm disappointed in. Would prefer something tried and true and been out a while.

Goodyear bought Cooper like 5 years ago and Cooper bought Mickey Thompson 25 years ago.

I used to buy a lot of Cooper tires until they suddenly started dry rotting out long before they wore out... probably ten years ago? I'm not opposed to them, but I don't see anyone around here driving on them anymore. Back in the day you'd see Cooper/Dean/Mastercraft all around here.

There are two different versions of the KO3 out there now. There is the OEM which is softer as far as I can tell but more silica and then the normal retail tire which is a bit firmer and a different tread pattern also. Michelin bought Uniroyal (and therefore BFG) like 35 years ago. Uniroyal had a huge presence in Michigan up until then. A bunch of my wife's family worked at Uniroyal headquarters and got terminated as a part of that deal. BFG hasn't really been a company other than in marketing in a very long time.
