If only slots and Welds were as widely available in a 16 inch wheel.

I wouldn't have ford wheels on my 79, that's for sure.

They do but they are rare , I have a set of Typhoons and Stone Crushers in 16”

I have toyo MT’s on both

Not to totally derail this thread but what is the story on the Xranger? I was just looking at them because I have the 37" BFG Baja hummer tires on my truck but they are getting a bit cracked. I have always thought that out of the 3 hummer tires the MT was the worst, if they were doing the MTR or Baja tread I would have already bought some. Treadwright is retreading the MTR pattern but a new tire for the same money ($250) seems like a much better buy. I am in the same boat on rims, have a few different sets of nice old school 16.5 aluminums that I hate to retire.

Supposedly the new Xranger is a softer compound than the originals were. No first hand experience with them though.

I would hope so, the military ones were like iron.

Looks like Lakesea tires makes them, made overseas but distributed in US out of Birmingham Alabama. If you go to their website every tire they offer is sold out and unavailable. No phone number, E-mail only. I am not surprised that trailworthy contracted to have a 16.5 made for them to sell. The limited selection of 16.5 tires makes the hummer beadlock business not as attractive without hummer take off tires being available. Interco seems to be the only company with a selection in 16.5. A few other random brands have a 16.5 but it is getting tough to find something good.

I had the 35" Trxxus MT on a truck for a little while. Didn't put a ton of miles on them because I ended up tearing the truck all apart. But I do think they were pretty good in the snow. They rode good on the highway. But they did take a decent amount of weights to balance out

My experience with overseas made tires (on larger trucks/trailers) is that they usually wear faster but no other common issues. Might be the same in the light truck market.

The lack of tires available in the 16.5" size is why I haven't gone to the humvee wheels on my crew cab dually.

if you don't mind going to a different size rim...
on my 2013 Sierra crew cab I had 35s but Mickey Thompson ATZ and they rode great. bit pricey but got 70k miles out of them and got rid of the truck. still had at least 10k miles left of tread...
but no 16.5" rim

I ran the Trxus MT's on my 2500HD years ago and was not real impressed with them. The tread compound seemed very soft which gave good traction but pretty poor wear. Actually went through a total of 6 tires and doubt I got more than 25-30k before they were all bald. Bought 4 new and the fronts wore down fast even with rotating them, then wound up picking up two more. After those were worn I put on a set of BFG All-Terrains that rode way better and lasted over 50k, and no other changes were made to the truck....no alignment, same wheels, same suspension components, etc...

Buy a set of these. Gives you a wheel that fits the style you like, but 17"....

Shouldn't take long in your climate to dull them up and make them look right lol

I have really nice 17” wheels , I have some really nice 16” wheels , and I run Toyo MT’s on them .

But It’s the really nice welds I have , a really nice set of Centerlines , and the really nice slot mags and turbines I have that I need rubber for LOL ,

And only one of those needs to be 35” the rest of them can be a 37-38 .

I know Smokey looks like a turd , and wheels shouldn’t matter on a beater plow truck . But it’s not always gonna be that way . Hopefully next summer it will get painted with the service bed .

That’s got me leaning more towards the Vortrac, this truck doesn’t need a mud tire anyways lots of highway and dirt roads .

I'd say the vortrac would have a lot better wear. I was told by quite a few people that the ssr's wear real good too. But :dunno:

SSR’s don’t wear good , they are really good at wearing lol .

They are not as soft as Iroks but close .

I haven't put really any miles on my iroks yet. I probably have as many miles in burn outs as I do driving lol... But they don't show any wear at all.
When I was reasearching to buy them a lot of people told me all the super swampers hold up way better than they used to. I just haven't had mine long enough to know for sure.

I know mounting 16.5s sucks too lol.

How many miles a year will you put on this truck? Even if you only get 20k out of a set, but that takes you 5 or 6 years to get to, I'd say that's decent really

I daily drive it , 120 mile round trip 5-days a week . I also use it for getting firewood ,trips to the dump , plowing , and the occasional run to the glacier (@blazinzuk knows the trail) it pulls trailers sometimes and is my go to rig whenever there is a dirty job that needs doing .

Basically it’s my truck for doing truck stuff .

I think the truxus mts would not last to terribly long but they are good on ice and snow.

I don't know anything on the vortracs except they last a while zero knowledge on traction
