TnA Release of Winch Cradle!

I'm torn between this winch cradle and the DIY4X A-Bomb...

Does anyone have photos of the "New" version of the winch cradle mounted to their truck?

Also, would a person still be able to use B52 brackets with the "New" version of the winch cradle?

Also, could a person order the winch cradle with the TNA logo NOT cut into it?

the logo is optional,

what of it do you want to see? i haven't mounted mine to the 79 yet but I could slide it onto my 84 k10 frame if you needed to see something. No front clip so it would be very open.

Yes, the new version bolts onto the frame the same as the old version, it's just a one-piece design now. Unless the B52's have changed recently (and I don't think they have) it should all bolt together just fine. I made these fit pretty tight, so the only thing I could possibly see would be that you might have to grind just a pinch for clearance of the B52 brackets but I really doubt that would be the case.

And yes, I'm certainly willing to leave off the TnA logo for you, no worries there. If you'd like, I could even cut a custom logo for you for an additional charge. PM me if you are interested in one.

Will it fit?

Hey,
Wondering if it'll fit a Badlands (Harbor Freight) 12000lb winch.

Here's the dimensions.

Will these work on a first gen blazer or first gen b52 setup

The cradles DO bolt up on the frist gens with some modifications. The ends of teh frame horns have to be trimmed a bit, and new holes will need to be drilled in the frame. I have not seen a truck at my shop with a first gen B52 bracket set on it so I cannot say one way or the other if it will fit on that setup.

Well, I've always held to this only being designed for up to 10,000lb winches, however, in this case figuring the Badlands stuff being a little over-rated and the Warns and Ramseys a little under-rated, I guess I'd say you are okay there. As far as dimensions go, you should be fine with the only exception possibly being that the end of the motor might have a slight interference with the lower leg of the frame "C" channel. A small and quick bit of trimming should take care of it if there is an interference there.

*** QUESTION FOR YOU ALL ***

Hey guys!! I'm sure that this might be difficult to get, since if someone has purchased one of these, they would rarely come back to this thread, but I'm going to ask anyways....

Has anyone successfully mounted one of my winch cradles on a 1-ton frame? If so, is there a frame-height difference at the front that causes any problems? It's not something that I have paid much attention to, since I don't own any 1-ton GMs and this has typically been marketed to K5's and 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks.
I know some have mounted these on Suburbans, which in my mind I would think to have a taller frame due to the length and weight of the body. But is it actually any taller? Are even the 1-tons any taller at the front frame horn? Or are they hugely different? I have absolutely no idea. Send me some of your Wisdom guys!!!

-Darren

This is my first post in this forum, as I joined specifically because I am going to purchase one of these cradles for my 1 ton.

I've seen this frame difference debate come up a million times, and I've seen almost as many opinions/answers. The answer I see most often (which is not neccessarily how it is) is as follows...

Half ton frame is not as tall as 3/4 & 1 ton.
3/4 ton and 1 ton same dimensions, possibly different grade/thickness?

I havent seen a noticable difference between 3/4 and 1 ton in all honesty.

As stated earlier, I am fairly certain that in front of the front axle they all share dimensions-As far as bumper mounting goes.

All of this to say I will be able to verify for certain whether or not it fits a 1 ton, sometime in the near future. Unless someone beats me to it, in which case I'll just enjoy it anyhow!

Newly installed

Wanted to follow up with my experience installing with the aforementioned Badlands 12000.

First impressions on getting the cradle were great - welds look fantastic, the thing as a whole is beefy but not overbuilt. The shipping and such were great, so totally happy there.

When I did a test fit I was sad to find out that the frame was a hair too wide and the cradle wouldn't simply slip over and bolt on. The difference was a couple millimeters so I was confident I could figure something out. So I sent it in to get powder coated anyway. I chalk this up to a nearly 30-year old frame being a little off from factory, and general tolerance variations. So no biggie.

I'd emailed TNA about the size difference and he had pretty much the same ideas I did for getting it on - heat, ratchet strap and some trial and error. Fast email reply btw, even though he was on vacation! So kudos for customer service.

After getting it back from the powder coater I did another test. I was able to ratchet strap the ends of the frame inward enough, but ultimately that technique wouldn't allow me to get the cradle on with the winch in place because the strap would block where the cradle needed to go.

So, next thing I tried was simply having my fiancee take a BFH to one side while I pressed the cradle forward. Bingo.

So, I put my winch on, moving it slightly to one side in the mount notches to avoid any frame-winch interaction, and tried again. Once the cradle was over the initial edge it was a pretty simple matter of kicking and pushing to get it to line up with the holes. After that everything was pretty spot on. Bolted it up and checked clearance.

This is where I ran into the only real problem I had with the whole thing: bolt length.

Now the rear mounts of the cradle connect up to the sway bar mount holes, and I can only assume that you're supposed to use the same bolt for the sway bar mounts and the cradle. Unfortunately the supplied 4 bolts to do this are a tad short, to the point where you can get either the front one or the rear one slightly threaded with a nut, but not both.

The simple fix for this was I went and got longer bolts. The supplied ones are 1.5" so I just got 2" ones and all was well.

As you can see in the photos there's no clearance issues with the frame, however the engagement lever slightly interferes with my trans cooler lines. I think replacing these lines and fittings with lower profile ones, possibly routing them differently will fix this. In the mean time it's actually not un-usable, so not a major issue.

I haven't finished the wiring, and I haven't installed the fairlead because I have a delrin model on order. But, the cradle is on and I love it. I'll likely be ordering up the "wings" from TNA sometime in the near future and doing the whole "fangs" trimming, but until then I'm pumped to now have some recovery gear installed with a great looking winch cradle. Thanks TNA! :waytogo:

Not sure about that brand of winch but on Warn winches you can loosen that end piece and rotate the body to reposition the lever.

Also I believe the hoses pictured are for the engine oil cooler. If so, they are metric so finding alternative fittings may be tough.

Ah!! Thanks for the heads up on both accounts. I hadn't investigated the cooler lines, so I'd just assumed they were trans related. Clocking the housing on the winch would definitely be the simpler fix either way. I'll look into that.

I am thinking of doing this same winch and bracket. I would love to see the pics, but they do not show. Can you repost or fix the links?

Here's a '74 Blazer I've been working on for the last several months. I had to trim the front of the frame and drill all new holes into the sides for the cradle to fit.

Also the frame was about a 1/4" too wide, so I pulled it together with a bar clamp. It was pretty easy to pull together and made it real nice for mocking up the cradle to decide where to trim the frame.

Here it is installed. You might notice the TNA crossmember in there as well.
