TnA's 86 Jimmy Shop Build / Product Development Thread - (Trailing Arms?!?!)

I like that y ou bring the sides tucked up closer earlier on instead of keeping them all the way out to the end.

now that I've said that, i'd like to see it the other too to see if it looks any better.

Yeah, that was my idea from the start - I saw one on a Jeep a while ago that kicked up rather than back in that fashion, and I thought to myself, "Hmmm..." that might work. And I really like how it looks now.
As far as just coming straight back though, I think it would end up looking like all the rest... I might mock it up to see in the computer, if I have time...

Well, after screwing around with my plasma table all morning, then getting some shipments out, I feel like I haven't really accomplished much... I ended up wiring up and old plasma cutter that I had laying around, but it can't cut 3/8" plate. Damn. It is rated to do it, but like I said, it's old and never meant for a CNC table. Can't quite pierce through it. Oh well. Maybe it will work better on the 1/4" and thinner. Off to try that now...

Ughh.... I feel like nothing was accomplished today :( I did manage to get a little 3/16" plate cut out though for the main center section. I'll try to get more done tomorrow. I can't wait to get this bumper put together and see it in real life!!! But for now, here's another rendered pic of it, in silver, straight on from the front:

Looks sweet. Stick it in front of the k5 like you did on that other pic.

Really nice piece. What are you expecting to be asking for one? What size winch is that in it now? Thanks

This is exactly how I did the winch mount for my old Grand Cherokee, can't wait till my babies on the road so I can get this for her!!! Probably going with mount only and fab my own outer.

I haven't even begun to figure what the cost will be on this one yet. It uses quite a bit of steel, quite a bit of time on the plasma, and a ton of time with the welder, so I've got to be able to recover my costs. I'll try to keep it as fair as possible though! ;)

The winch in there is just an old Smittybilt 8k that I had laying around that doesn't even work. It's just there for the pics :) I designed it around the Warn Powerplant and the major brands of 12k winches that I could find dimensions on. The mount system will be full 3/8" plate with 10 bolts to the framerail, so I think it will be one of the beefiest winch mountings available for these trucks! :pimp:

Sweet! I'll end up with a price breakdown of all the pieces individually, and then a slightly discounted price for the whole deal as one purchase.

Well I wasn't going to come in on Saturday, but since I had all the issues with the plasma system this week, I decided to come in anyways. After running some errands and filling up my welding gas cylinder, I got to double checking my dimensions for the sides, then getting busy with the plasma. Here are all 15 pieces for just one side:

I tacked everything together, and then bolted it up to check fitment. I am impressed with myself on this one... I never changed a single measurement from the original design to this. I figured I'd at least have to change some things to the side once the center was welded up and bolted on. Nope. It fits almost perfect. I'm really liking this design so far.

And from the side, there is a little bit more room to trim the fenders than with the factory bumper but I think it still looks good with no trimming done. I can't be happier with it!

side shot makes the truck look like its got a dip in its lip....

I was thinking center section, with tubes for cut fangs and a front guard like the ORD bumper.

I really like the look. I'll be interested to see what you wind up charging for this.

Lol, nice! It'll look better with a winch "dip" in it's lip....

That's really nice

Needs painted white imo.

Thanks man. And White? Really? I was thinking of a bunch of color schemes and a white bumper wasn't one of them... Have you seen it before? Do you have any pics? I'm not sure I've seen too many white bumpers to try to get a visual in my head...
I'm actually starting to settle on a dark cherry red (maybe HOK's Candy Brandywine with a darker color layered underneath) for the actual truck body. So with that in mind, what does everyone think for an accent color? aka color for the bumper, engine crossmember, motor mounts, shackle flip, etc... that will be part of the TnA parts lineup?

We can do that in a little bit. When I get it done and all the details laid out, I'll have pricing for each part separately.

Thanks! I'm diggin the look too. I think it's slightly more modern looking than most anything else out there for these body styles, but still sorta pays "homage" to the factory bumper out along the outside and wrapping around the fender.

Thanks for all the comments guys!!!

...Found a pic of the color I'm after on a similar body style...

Also, I'm thinking that a Titanium Grey Metallic might be the accent color. Something like this maybe:

What's everyone's thoughts on this?
