My 73 that I have been in the process of rebuilding for sometime has come to the point where I need to start working on a powerplant. The motor I have currently is a mildly built 2 bolt main motor. However it has sat for some time and is in need of a complete go through. So the question I have is Should I search out a 4 bolt main motor and build it up or just stick with what I have. My end goal with my build is a strong, reliable, family and can get to movin if s$it hits the fan.

You don't need a 4 bolt main in less you plan on running crazy RPMs, NOS, blower or a turbo. I've built a lot of motors in the past, only 1 that I can think of was a 4 bolt.

I had a 468 that I built years ago that made about 540 horse. 2 bolt main, cast cranks a small rods. Your 2 bolt will be fine.

Thats kind of what I thought but needed a little clarification on the need for a 4 bolt main

Even in a 4 bolt "010" block you cant push it but so much. The main webs are the same amount of material and its still a factory block.

Do and ls or vortec swap ditch the old school stuff the ls 5.3 can be had for under a grand low mileage. You can install one in you're truck for roughly 2,000 that is comparable to a rebuild on the current 350.

You don't need a 2 bolt know one will ever see it and it wont make it any faster.
