What's so bad about the 3R/S44 other than it's size (roughly the same as a 1330, IIRC)? Also, any idea on how much torque it takes to break a Toyota u-joint? - toy stuff is around 3000 ft-lbs before it stetches - Its rear to see it broken- we tested a set and it stretch 30 degree's on the torque side - friggen crazy- the Japaneese use some good steel - I answered the 3r question on the other post- And i'm not grouchy now hehe - JEss

its good to some storys about Tom - He Is a stand up guy -He's my main competitor -But He's doing things that work for him or he would not be in buisiness - On the flip side we have very different ways of thinking- Jess

yet another point for Jess... how many guys have good things to say about their biggest competitor?

To Do List:
Chevy Ram Jet 502

Rockwell 2.5 Ton Axles, Dual rear, 2in 47 Spline Chromoly Axle-Tubes, ARB front; Spool rear
Full Hydro Steering
Military Split-Rims and Grave-Digger Tires
KluneV Reduction Gear
Highly Modified 4L80(nonE) 900ft/lb Torque-Rated
JB Conversions NP205
8 Point Roll Cage
Vintage Air A/C Heater System
I like the to do list- Your axles are going to help allot- I assume your going to run lock outs? The front driveline would have been an issue if you did not have klune -have you bought the klune and or jb 205 yet? we are a dealer for both- I would say 1410 where ever it fits- and a c/v rear if angles are tight- Nice wet up- Jess

I haven't yet. And yes I am going to have lock-outs; for the rear, believe it or not. It's going to be a DD and I'll be driving it 'front wheel drive' around town with the A.R.B. off. When I hit dirt/snow I'll fire up the A.R.B. and lock the rear!! The reason for this is USA6X6's A.R.B. is only splined for the stock 16 spline Rockwell axles.

And you can thank this thread because it looks like I'll be ordering from you. I checked out your website after you responded. Very nice; my kind of hardware  !!

I'll tell you, you can't buy better advertising than this thread Jess :D :D !!

P.S. I added to my 'To Do List' Jess  .

Got a rear driveshaft from HAD last winter. It is the thicker walled tubing, 1350 CV with a drive flange. It was built and shipped pretty fast. Quality and service was great. I will go to HAD for all my driveshaft needs, and I will refer everyone who needs driveline stuff there too.

runnin a rear HAD shaft with 1410's right now. jesse was real helpful on the phone and i had my shaft promptly.

doesn't sound like either company necessarily inferior, but HAD supports ck5, and means somethin to me.

highangledriveline

id go with jesse for sure,he made me a rear driveshaft and gave him the measurements and the shaft was too long and he paid for shipping to ship back to him and he took care of it and sent it back to me no problems....
excellent customer service highly recommend and the driveshaft is by far heavyduty

I have three of my shafts from Tom, he is local for me and great to deal with and his hats are really cool :D

I've dealt with Jesse several times and he has always been really helpful and efficiant. HAD gets my vote.

i have ordered a few times from had.... most recently i ordered a yoke that HAD to be at my house before a trip, without extra shipping he got it here and way cheaper then all the driveshaft crooks in town here, and my yokes were u bolt style which everybody else claimed didnt exist, imagine that, i voted HAD

I will say this, I have not seen Tom Woods handing out 200.00 discounts towards a purchase, here in the forums. But, I have seen Jess do it many times. :thumb:

Front d shaft

I have a HAD rear 1350 CV and when I called Jesse for a front they did not have anything that would give the angle I needed and fit. Jesse recomended the 1410 CV ($8-900) for the front as it was the only thing he that would do the angle I needed and then there was still concern that the angle at the pinion would be to bad once I got close to maxing out the CV.
So I called Tom Woods and they hooked me up with there flex joints at each end and a flange for my clocked 208 to just run 2-1350 ujoints and get the angle I needed for a lot less cash. I also got trail spare joint as well as 12" of spline and it was about $600 for it all shipped.
They both do great work but I was much happier with Tom for the idea cost and craftmanship when it came to the front d-line. I have beat both shafts on many trails and am very pleased.

Fellas,
I have been 4wheelin' for many years now but I am by no means an expert at any of this offroad hobby of ours. In fact, my mechanical abilities are fairly low for how long I've owned 4x4's. However, I feel that I'm an expert at sales and customer service and if some JACKHOLE acted as if I were interrupting his day and bothering him I'd use Tom Woods drivelines if all products are otherwise equal. I'm sure HAD makes a fine product but customer service is 75% of the game.

Now, I didn't have time to read all six pages of this thread but one would think that if HAD (Jesse) and all its workers were members they would have read this thread and maybe made some clarification as to this customer service issue or lack-there-of one. Just a second though.:dunno:

Man, it's obvious you didn't read any of the posts here. It's overwhelming pro-HAD!! Jess couldn't buy any better advertisement than this!!

HAD all the way!!

I'm in the offroad business but what I found out way before those days was that Jess won't build a shaft for your rig if he doesn't feel it will hold up the engine/terrain/tire size/driveline angles, etc. What this means is if you have 44's on your 10 bolts and want 1310 cv's he's not going to build them. Reason cause when the fly apart you won't be calling him bitchn' about his product. Don't get me wrong I don't buy every driveline from Jess but all our shop rigs run HAD, the CJ8 we're build on 49's w/ rockwells has HAD, the Superduy w/ 27" of lift and 49's has HAD, and so on. But the average TJ on 33's w/ 4" lift doesn't and ususally it's because of the time factor, Jess is 5 days shipping plus build time and sometimes I don't have that long.

Sometimes the good things in life you just have to wait for.........

BUY THE BEST AND ONLY CRY ONCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Y'all,

I've never dealt with TW, so I can't comment on him at all. But I have started to deal with Jess at HAD. First off, he's been extremely professional and polite. He knows his goods, and he makes sound recommendations. Yes, you may pay a little more for his product, but you get what you pay for. YOU WANT 1 TON PROTECTION, YOU GET 1 TON PROTECTION. I've ordered 1410 U-Bolt Pinion Yokes for my D60/14BFF so far and Jess set me up with a great deal. He recognized my military service and took care of me! Shipping was great, quick and easy. I can't wait to order my 1 Ton's from him in a few weeks.

As far as some of the negative customer service statements:

IMHO, don't confuse any shortness with Jess as being rude. By my experience, he's extremely busy and needs to get to the point on many of his orders. Yeah, he spends time with every customer to make sure they get exactly what they need, but remember, he's a business owner. Sometimes, he won't have time for small talk, or long winded explanations. Delivery time is often dependent upon work load and demand. A few weeks wait for a great product isn't unreasonable. Not saying anyone has done this, but you can't expect Jess to jump and build a driveshaft, box it, ship it and get it to your door, when you order 3-4 days before a major wheelin' event. That's places an unfair expectation on HAD or any other company for that matter. Customers have responsibilities towards the company they buy from too, ya know.

Remember too, everyone can have a bad day as well. It's difficult sometimes to be focus when everything around you is takin' the deep six, or won't fit when it should. He's human too ya know. Sometimes I think when we are all wrapped up in our trucks, we forget that...

Just my $.03 at the current rate of inflation.

Can't wait to get the driveline Jess! YOUR PRODUCTS ROCK!

Surely HAD makes a fine product as most of you have stated, however, as I stated in my thread above, I was mostly looking at it from a customer service issue regarding the CK5'ers initial phone call to HAD. With all the support for HAD I probably would give them a call for a shaft and hopefully not get the shaft from some yahoo at the counter phone. This goes for any product in any industry. Unfortunatly you know what they say about first impressions.

Yeah, first impressions are not everything, or even almost everything...they are almost ALWAYS wrong.

You're forgetting the human factor. He mentioned that he was irritated at the time of the call because spicer jacked up his stock order. Maybe this guy called him immediatly after he found that out. It is unfair to expect him to immediatley forget something like that and be totally professional on the phone. Messed up stock orders totally jack things up for Jesse- If theres a fat stack of invoices, and no ujoints or ball studs or h yokes etc to complete them with, because some jack hole at spicer messed up the shipping... it's irritating to say the least. :doah:

That said, I'm working for Jesse again now. Kinda informal...his new guys are out for a couple months for whatever reasons, and I need some work while going to school. He's helpin me, I'm helpin him. The 160 mile a day commute sucks dookie though...:eek1:

Oh yeah....Jesse is pretty much the only dude that will EVER answer the phone at HAD. His wife might answer sometimes, or the bookeeper on the day shes there for a couple hours. But if it's a dude...it's Jesse.
