Too Nice to Tear Up

12 years trying to daily drive a 1978 K5, while making it a great Moab rig.
Love it. Nice build. My 75 looked very similar except had WAY more rust. But it was all white, full side trim just like yours. I totally dig the sleeper vibe too. Want to see more too.

How'd one of these beefy pigs fit on Black Bear too? Got any pics of it on it?

It kind of all started, in about 1985, when my brother bought a '74 full top, white, with full trim. We built the 400 sb, and drove the crap out of it for several years!

I don't have any good pics of my '78 on Black Bear, but here's one of my brother Mike's '81 on the switchbacks. The pic was taken from inside @6872xtc '68 k10.Blackbear 2002 041j.jpg

That's cool. I've got a buddy with a Jeep wants to run Black Bear and wondered about the room for a full size on the switchbacks. Hell Jeeps have to make 2-3 point turns on the tight ones, I'm betting you need to double that for a K5.

I don't remember ever having to back up more than once, but maybe I forgot. I took my red short bed over it twice. I have a picture out the windshield, looking at Telluride on that switchback. Pat made sure to leave the hood in the pic!

Black bear seems like it's a mind over matter kind of trail. I've done enough high shelf driving I don't think I'd have an issue, but like any other trail you have to pay attention. Mt. Antero is a very similar trail except for a couple of key differences. One, it's not connected to another trail so you end up climbing up to the top and coming back down. The other key difference is there just isn't as many switchbacks as Black bear. Probably half of what Black bear has. But they are all above timberline and required multi-point turns to navigate in my 75 K5. So you can see straight down the mountainside to each level below just like Black bear. We'll probably run that trail next year at some point and link it up with the other popular trails nearby.

I do think going down switchbacks is harder than up. I would definitely have the Magnum doubled down.
