Trail Clean Up Truck Project w/pics

Hmm, not sure what to tell ya. I posted those last night from home and they are there when I look at them from my work computer now.:dunno:

I like the gusseting; I should do that with my K5 tailgate area. Seems to get tweaked anytime we do a difficult trail.
 
TIRES!!!!

Toyo liked what we were doing with the truck and stepped up with some tires. I had to pay a few hundred bucks in shipping, but nothing to complain about really.
I know some of you are going to hate me for this but I'm putting 35x12.50R17s on the truck and the 37s that are on it now can finally go back on my Jeep where they came from in the first place.
While I think the 37s were cool. I think the 35s will be a touch more practical for a rig meant to be loaded with trash on a trail and not really a hard core trail rig. Trust me when I say that it took a very strong fight against my own testosterone to put smaller tires on it.

I only had time to mount one tire tonight. This is going to be a project all by itself. The Allied beadlocks have 32 bolts per wheel and I have 10 of them to mount......yes.....10! I have to take the 37s off the beadlocks and mount them back on the Allieds for the Jeep. So that is 320 bolts just for the beadlock rings. Now throw in the 32 wheel bolts on the truck and the 20 on the Jeep and you get a fun day playing with 372 bolts!!!!!!!!!!(not counting spare tire lugs, valve caps etc)

Here is one of the 35" Toyos mounted next to the 37" MTR on the truck now. (also a neat shot of the Rhino lined rocker)

I finally got tired of the Red/Black/Blue/Silver/Grey paint job and did a temporary black paint on the front of the truck. Still debating what color to really paint it. If anyone wants to photoshop this picture with some suggestions feel free. (hint hint)

Cole I may play with some colors for you if you would quit taking pictures of the truck with your camera facing the sun or in the shadows. :rolleyes: :) It looks like the second picture would have come out way better if your truck was parked on the opposite side of the road just out of the shadows.

To get a good picture you need to have the sun (or other light source) behind the camera with good light on the subject. ;)
 
So I got up early this morning to head up to the 16th annual Left Hand Canyon clean up day. Remembered everything except my camera....DOH!!

Four of us hopped in the crew cab with our rakes and shovels and made our way up to Boulder.
For the most part the truck worked great.....low range works but for some reason the front end does not turn. With the 14bff having been broken when I got the truck there this a large chance the front D44 has a broken R&P or spiders in it. (time to find the missing D60).
We hauled more loads than any other truck there. Filled 2 giant roll off dumpsters.

That truck is looking pretty good. They did a pretty good looking job on the lining to.:waytogo:

I've been contemplating getting some of those Toyos some day. The tire guy down here keeps trying to get me to buy some everytime I go in there. :doah::haha:

Thanks guys. Have had several people say they want to trade hoods but have yet to have anyone show up on my door step to trade.

That's cool man, I love the idea and hopefully it'll promote enviromental awareness so that the Sierra Club will see that we're not all tree-bending rednecks.:waytogo:

To be perfectly honest "MaxAir" donated the whole Rhino job. Jim Worden the owner and Rob Hiller the sales manager (and former Rhino expert :wink1:) loved the project and offered to help out.

These guys did my Jeep TJ about 6 years ago and it is still perfect. Great craftsmanship. They do a very quality job. Think they saw an opportunity to be part of the community and offered to help.
 
Flat bed with chicken wire flip up sides so you can load it then flip up the side boards and drive it man just a redneck farmer thing I guess.

While I would agree with you that a flat bed with fold down sides would be good for the functionality there are several reasons we did not do that.

First it would defeat the point of all the frame shortening to fit a short box on it. Secondly, it would not give us any "bill board" space to deliver the message.

Part of the point of this truck is to haul trash the other part of it is to deliver a message to the general public that we care enough about our trails to build trucks specifically to take care of them. Both will help our cause as wheelers to help keep our trails open.

So while I agree that the flat bed would work well for the first part. It also has to be cool enough and clean enough looking to draw people in to look at it. Once they start looking, then they will be able to read the message we have to deliver. If it looks too "redneck" it will just get ignored or brushed off. (I know, hard to do with a very old redneck truck in the first place).

I still have a LONG way to go to get it to the end product.

How do you like those allied beadlocks? I've got a set here just waiting for tires. The wait is killing me!
 
I love them.

I have had a set of 17x8 Allied Beadlocks on my Jeep TJ for about 6 years now. I probably have 60-70K on them and LOTS of wheeling. They have been great! They withstand tons of abuse on the TJ. (have not even scratched then on the truck yet). Never any leaks, balance okay etc.
