Trail Clean Up Truck Project w/pics

I understand.

Great for trail use. Gutless without a turbo=$$$. Reliability issues. Mileage should be OK.

Some guys get them to work well, there's a site for them I can't remember. But to me It's like building a D44. I'd just go with a D60 (cummins)

But like I said wouldn't go throwing that kind of $ around for this project either.

Although...the 4BT should be less trouble/$ and it's 4cyl = ecofriendly but has grunt. They're common in bread/delivery trucks. And it SOUNDS like a diesel coming down the trail whereas a 6.2 sounds like a messed up gas engine or something. :D

EDIT: Bottom line...if you can get the 6.2 cheap/free and get it set up...do it.

I wish I was closer, I'd like to help out.

Here's my trail cleanup rig. Planning to build a removable tow boom in the bed for dragging junk cars out of rough/remote places.

I still think for the cost a 4bt would be the best bet. Look around local auctions and such. I had a buddy buy a bread truck with a 4bt and a th400 running and driving for $900. The amount of power you could make with one is far above anything a 6.2 or a 6.5 could ever make. They are also easier to work on and easy to install(3 wires). Hope you find what you need I like where this truck is goin and hope to see it in top form soon.

Ill have find some vids to show you if I can find them as they speak better than words lol. The 4bt has just as much potential as a 6bt percentage wise. Everything is exactly the same. Pistons are the same sixe and all. With some work to the pump (can be done by you in your garage) and some injectors 300hp and 500+ ftlbs wouldnt be setting things too high. From there the sky is the limit. I had a 6bt 12v with only a few mods and it made over 500hp.

Cool.

I like the way the 454 drives (ls6 450hp version with some stuff on it) but it sucks the fuel down and does nothing for the image of the project.

I did a bit of searching on craigslist and ebay and did not find anything reasonable for the 4bt. (or at all in some cases)

I have a 4bt in my 78 K10 if you have any questions for me.... I love it.

I also used to drive a 94 blazer with the 6.5 TD. Both vehicles go real good in a half ton. The 4bt makes more power.

I'm still here!!!!!
My "day job" is as a financial advisor. So you can imagine I have been a touch busy this year.
I plan on getting back to work on the truck and hoping to see it working even more this summer.

My computer was stuck doing some updates and I was near the truck with a camera.
I have been trying to get motivated to do some more work on it. So going out and snapping some pictures may help.
These should give you an idea what I still have to do....a small idea.

I want to swap out to the 91 style grill. I have a radiator support, just need the headlights and grill pieces. Also need to build a winch mount for the front, bumper etc for the Ramsey 15K winch with Winchline.com rope on it. Also have 4 KC highlights that need to go up front.

I need some rocker protection with a step, needs to be easy to step up and toss stuff over the bedside right in front of the tire.
Also need a rear bumper. Need to build a rack in the bed to hold shovels, rakes, buckets, 2 more KC lights and a BullDog 10k winch with Winchline.com rope.....and cut out the fenders for the Bushwhacker flares to make room for those 37s.

Roof needs some love. Really need to finish up the body work (which I suck at) and get some paint on it.

....and of course my big hurdle at the moment is that the front axle is broken. It NEEDS something bigger than the D44.

That is a really neat pic, it'll be my background once I get my own computer:doah: That truck will be sick when you do get it done. If anything, it's going faster then mine.:doah::(

Yes Sweet stickers, who did those for you. Is that scotts work? I'd like to get some of those stickers maybe for our club to use. Everyone should be doing that. good work man.

Yes, MrK5 did the stickers for the truck and I think they came out great.

He did this set as a temporary set until we get the truck totally done, then we would work on something more permanent.
