Im getting ready to lower my xfer case... but how much? I am running about a 4 inch suspension lift. Is an inch spacing/drop typical?? Help pse! :D

Thanks-
Andrew

Better to do none, it just moves the problem from the rear driveline to the front. What is the exact thing you're trying to 'fix'?

I HAD to lower mine with a 4" lift. Every vehicle is different. So after you do the lift have a look at the rear angle and see if its even needed.

I'm looking at mine right now...just installed a 4" lift. Angle is not ideal, but not far off, however I'm looking at not having enough slip engagement to suit my liking. I'm going to have the driveshaft lengthened 2", which should also help a little with angle.

As much as it pains me, dropping my T-case 1/2" might be an acceptable short term problem solver and save me spending money on yet another driveshaft.

Drop it 1/2 inch, 1 inch, heck, even 1 1/2 inch, as long you don't drop it on your foot.....:D

on this note I've been meaning to ask. Mine is dropped, but the truck is only lifted like 2" at the most. PO work. There are round spacers between the brace and the frame. I don't think they are in right, I've seen these "dowels" in a different location on my cousins frame. Where exactly are they supposed to be cause this ain't right.

those are supposed to be above the frame. the x-member is to be flush with the bottom of the frame. you putting unneeded stress on the frame, and if you would catch the x-member on something it'll be ripped off.

never install factory spacer tubes between the frame and crossmember. this is what makes the frame crack and break in the area of the crossmember.

Exactly, thats why the spacers SHOULD be a full length of square tube!

This isnt necessarily the one for our truck, but its a good representation of what they should be like!

And thanks for all the feedback and ideas.

well damnit, that is what I would have done, use some square stock to run the ~8" of crossmember. I saw those and wondered why are they there. Lucky for me I only scraped the skid a couple times.

So both sides go above the frame rail? Washers on both sided (head and nut), cause I think there are some missing on mine. friggin great

My 90 was dead stock as far as suspension and stuff goes, the crossmember is flat up against the underside of the frame, then below the crossmember are the 1" tubes, then the nuts for the bolts. I've never seen the tube things on the topside of the inside of the frame...

I snapped a pic, but am feeling too lazy to upload at the moment.

well, I was first concerned after looking at it, but didn't give it much thought. Then saw my cousins p/u with the tubes above the frame on one side, and under the crossmember on the other. He said it's been like that prolly since '85.

Something I would really like to fix and have RIGHT. Damn POs. Sorry for the slight hyjack, but some ppl should know not to do this.....

thats how mine is too. when i first bought my truck it had
a 3" lift with that, thankyou po:mad:

I wouldnt hesitate to do the "spacer flip" "mod" for a short term fix on a daily driver, until my spacer kit came in.. but I woundt suggest it for long term. :doah:

This is how mine is.:DI love the way it looks and how people always tell me its bad.:D
