Not a bad plan as long as the trans guy is right. It still doesn't sound like the reason for the leak is nailed down ( unless the vent is clogged). Id also replace the seal in the trans output adaptor since it's easy to do and is a frequent cause of overfilled transfer cases.
If you do lots of long haul driving at California freeway speeds, the th350 kinda sucks. Its just no possible to travel faster than 50mph without the motor screaming. The overdrive on the 700 would help with that.
