Truggy build Season 4 (Project Freak)

I saw a grille made out of (thin) rebar, looked pretty good, and was definitely sturdy. Didn't have a camera on me at the time

I spent most of the day finishing up the mock up, design, and fabrication of the shock mounts. This evening I started welding everything together so tomorrow I should be able to pull the jackstands out and see what it all looks like! :pimp:

cool beans, keep us posted! With the search feature down over on pirate, I can't find your old chevy-forum build up threads anymore. I was going to post that pic you have over there that showed your rig from above the rear quarter to demonstrate what I was talking about with respect to design continuity. I remember when I saw that pic for the first time my jaw just dropped. Definitely one of the most bad azz cab trucks I have ever seen. :thumb:

one of these?

on the continuity... I am planning on putting bed sides on it too.:doah:

How much does that thing weigh?

I havent weighed it since I re-tubed the back and cut off that portion of the stock frame, but back then it was 5500 lbs give or take. I'll weigh it this summer and post up if I remember.

For starters, Love the buggy.

Next, Your tires. Not sure if you've answered this before or not, I tryed a search.

45" Goodyear is what I understand. What are the full dimensions? Rim size? What model of Goodyear is it?

I have something similar, just a touch smaller, for a 20" rim though. I'm just trying to decide if it would make more sence to make rims for these tires or find something like those (bigger) with an easier to work with rim size.

Thanks

i the pic of it that was before you had a drivers side drop, now its a passanger side drop, why the change? or is the first pic mirrored?

Thanks

my tires are for a 16 or 16.1" rim, They are just an inch or two taller than a 44" TSL, and fit nicely on a 12-14" rim width.

yep, the middle one... freakin' bas a$$!!!!!!!! I've seen a lot of chevy rigs, but few are as cool as that one, especially from that angle.

doh! well, charge on with the fenders/grille then. Personally, I think it looks much better with all the tube exposed, but it ain't my rig. ;)

well, this is gonna make you happy.....

I think I'm going to ditch the stock hood and fender idea. :waytogo:

I like the way the tube work is coming out and I am always having to crawl out on the hood for some reason or another to work the winch, pass off a tow rope, etc, so I'm thinking about just plating it in with 3/16" diamond plate Aluminum like the bed. Before I had to be really careful where I stepped, but this way I'll be able to walk around on it, and even use it for storage if need be.

On to the pics.... (the one with the green arrow shows how the cage is tied into the upper link mounts to add strength to the mount and to triangulate the chassis for extra stiffness.)

Two more grill options I'm considering... whatcha think? (ignore the grey "hood" stuff)

I wont be going bling with polished alum or anything like that, I'll probably paint it flat black or flat dark grey or something like that.
