Twizted's Front Winch Cradle

There are 2 styles of frames the one you have which is the same one used in the original pic of the front plate bumper (hey we need a name for it ) the later 80's year frame. The 70's through the change had a different frame horn the one i put a pic of up. You'rs have not been cut.
New style 80's era frame also one used for prototype.

kgblazerfive: After looking at those pics, I realize that my brackets won't quite fit on yours without some more mods. I grab two bolts through both the round hole and the oval hole that your brace partially covers up. Also, the front of the winch cradle (the name that seems to be sticking around here) comes down and pretty much follows the angle at the end of the frame horns, hence it would run right into your spring hangers. I think you would have to do some fairly major mods to get this to work well. Adding some length to the front of your frame would help clear all your spring mounts, but then it wouldn't line up with your anti-sway bar mounts. If you would like to do that (add length to your front frame horns) I could send you one with the rear plate unwelded - you would then have to add some material between the two plates accordingly, but it should work. BUT, like I said, that's some pretty substantial mods.
 
I have a wasp nest in my front mount, stupid wasp's will be the third one that I have killed in that truck
 
Need to sell a few more prototypes!

I've sold quite a few of these Winch Cradles as prototypes, but I would still like to sell a few more to make sure they will fit everyone's vehicles properly. I'm letting them go for $200 each right now, will probably release them fully at $250 after we sell a few more. I'll let 5 more go at the $200 price! Let me know...

i see you will use a cucv brush guard, can this winch mount be used behind the bumper? I want to keep the bumper and brushguard on my cucv, but i need to find a way to mount my m12000 behind the bumper.

This really wouldn't fit behind the factory bumper very well, it uses some of the factory bumper mounting holes. Of course, with some modification to the factory bumper, I wouldn't be surprised if you could make it work - take a close look at the pictures in this thread and you'll see how the mounting brackets are designed, and where the fairlead mounts - you'll have to decide for yourself if you think you can make it work!

Not quite yet on the early frame style - still need to get some exact dimensions to make sure it'll work, or change it slightly to work.
As far as a rear one goes, I'm still waiting to get a Blazer here at the shop to design off of - one without any frame modifications at least.

I may be moving shop over the next week or so - but I'm waiting on some paperwork to get sorted out first. If it goes through, then I'll be moving to a slightly larger and much better set up space. It will set me back a little on the design of stuff though.

I think I'll try to get some input on the rear bumper design while things are up in the air here... but I'll post a seperate thread on that.
 
actually looking at the winch mount and the stock bumper its not to far of a stretch to put it back. I plan to modify the stock bumper to fit over the mount. Some spacers and longer bolts and a little welding and it should be on. the brush guard is another story it will need to be modified and mounted a whole new way otherwise once mounted it will stick out front about 8 to 10 inches off the grill. that much weight out front is going to require some extra support on the bumper to make the guard use full.

Well, we tried to bolt one of these up to the earlier frame style, and after trimming the end of the framerails off, the main cradle will fit okay. It lines up with the anti-sway bar mounts just fine, and fits between the frame almost the same as the later models. The frame horn brackets don't line up with any of the existing holes though, so to put it on, you would have to drill all three holes on each side. I will try to come up with a different set of brackets for those frames soon - the Blazer I have here has some damage to it, so I'm not so sure I want to design off of it. Also, it looks like Twizted will be moving shop over the next two weeks, so I don't know how much time I will have to devote to it until after the move!

Sure, I'll still let them go for $200 for CK5 members. As far as a winch size goes, we designed them around an old T-Max 9,000lb winch, but they aren't as easy to get as they once were (before they merged with Westin Automotive). I have since used some Smittybilt 10,000lb winches (also built by T-Max, just with a slightly less powerful motor - 5.5HP vs. 6.6HP) and it seemed to fit just the same (you may have to "clock" the cable release lever down on some models). I can't vouch for Warn or Ramsey winches yet, but as long as you get the non-integrated type (get the ones with the solenoid box seperate from the winch, rather than the ones where the solenoids are integrated into the design of the winch itself) you should be able to get it in there. Also, I wouldn't go over the 10,000lb mark, as I originally only designed it for a 9,000lb winch. We haven't had any problems as of yet with them, but I don't want to push their limits either :)

I have decided to place the shackle tabs back onto the front as in the original design - I have no doubt that the welds will be strong enough to hold the tab on there, even though I do agree that putting them in shear would just be that much stronger. I really do (personally) like the looks of it better with them on the front of the plate, so that was one deciding factor. The other deciding factor was that I am thinking of some side "wings" that will bolt onto the frame mounts right where the tabs were placed for a bit. These "wings" would basically complete the Winch Cradle and make it into a full high-clearance bumper.
