First off, Thanks! As far as which winches will fit... Pretty much any "non-integrated" 10,000lb or smaller winch should fit with little to no trimming. "Non-integrated" means that the control solenoids are in a box that is mountable separately from the winch. The "Integrated" style has the control solenoids integrated into the frame of the winch - typically above the wire spool - and these definitely won't fit!
Out here in Colorado, we have mostly rocks to crawl on and ground clearance is of super high importance while wheeling. Any amount of approach/departure angle is worth working for to gain - hence the design of this winch cradle - it tucks the winch up underneath the radiator support as tight as possible and doesn't hang it out in front of the grill like all the other designs out there. This allows for a great approach angle without sacrificing having a winch or mounting one up so high that you block airflow to the radiator itself

I have an 80 K5 with the different end frame horns... Just how much different are they? Can i cut them and make this winch cradle work?

WELL.... I worked on the rear bumper design similar to the front one for a couple weeks off and on, and ended up empty-handed. With the tailgate on these trucks coming down so far - putting a winch in the rear bumper (even a non-integrated type) would make it hang down too far in my opinion. It can certainly be done, but it just doesn't jive in my own mind to make something that will reduce departure angle just to have a rear winch. That being the case, maybe just a thinline rear bumper and a bracket to mount the winch in the rear of the vehicle?? You'd have to drop the tailgate to use it of course... but how often do you really use a rear winch? I assume not all that often, but it's sure nice to have it when you need it

How about just a rear bumper with the same lines and the tucked-up-ed-ness of the front winch plate thingy? So it's all matching like.

Maybe a dumb question, but will the winch cradle and wings bolt up to a 1987 1-ton crew cab? Are the frames the same at that point? Definitely not a rock crawler but like your design. I'd also like to see a matching rear winch bumper. Maybe it would be easier to fit into a (1-ton) pickups rear frame?
has anyone added tubing off each side instead of the bolt on wings? is there enough room between all the bolts to clear a piece of 1.75 tubing and make a high clearance tube bumper?

Hey, have you had a chance to build one for a 77 blazer yet? New to the site, really like the design. I live close I could swing by with a Blazer if that would help. My front frame horns are still factory shape.
Interested in the rear winch. I had a full size Bronco and I ran with a winch front and rear and a high lift just in case. Swore I would never be with out two again. Now I have a blazer with none. BUT it is the start of a new build. I used the rear as much as the front. I am in NC and do most of my wheelen in the swamps or mud holes so departure angles are not as important as in the rocks. When we get back in the woods and the trails are tight that rear winch was great for the next guy. There were times I couldnt reach something with the front winch but could with the rear one. Loved having two.

i saw this thread while i was on ebay, went to the site.........didn't know he informed anybody he was closing the site, moving and selling the rig. peraps "surprising" would have been a better word, huh?

Its been for sale on craigs list most of the winter. I've seen it once in person at his shop.
Thats not Darren's rig it is a customer's says so in the ad, he has a classic body style solid axle swap truck mid 90's. That blazer that's for sale was used for mock up and product design work.
I have bought a couple things from him and never had problems if you email him he will respond to you faster than here. From what i hear he is running another company and the 4x4 stuff is the side business it was not busy enough to sub stain him.
