Twizted's Front Winch Cradle

Hey everyone, status update!

Hey everyone! I appreciate all the comments and emails I've received lately, and I am sorry that I haven't been able to get back up and running yet. I have a new building rented, and it was agreed upon by the Landlord that he would arrange power for all of my equipment. Two months later, and I am still waiting on city permits, and a new power drop for the building that will support, welders, plasma cutters, press brakes, etc... I have no definitive answer as to exactly when all will be up and running, but rest assured, I will DEFINITELY post up here when it is!!

Hope everything is going well with all of you!

P.S. - Yes, that Blazer was used for alot of development purposes of my products, but it is not mine, it is a good friend's/customers. It is sad to see it go, but that is the way of things :) My personal truck is a '94 SAS'd, coilovered, big-blocked pickup that is probably going to give up it's complete drivetrain and suspension to go under an S-10 Cab with a tube chassis this summer. Should prove to be fun :)

Me three

Put me in line for one as well once you're back up and running. Any chance I could get one before the snow begins to fall?

I emailed him a week or 2 ago. He said to email him with any requests as he is moving shops and working on a limited basis right now

Hi guys!!!

Hey Everyone!!! I'm finally a newly registered legal business again! The shop has been wired for power, and the metalworking section of the shop is up and running on a small-scale basis :) I know it might be confusing for a bit, and I'll make a big announcement soon on the forums, but the shop name has been changed and we are now "Totally Naked Automotive" or TnA for short :)

Any update on the shop? Will be wanting one of these in 3/8" flavor.

Haven't made one of these out of 3/8" before, never had a failure out of 1/4", but I'm sure it can happen!

To all who are ready to order the winch cradles, I have a couple started, and enough steel siting on the floor to make quite a few more! PM me when you are ready to buy, and we'll get it taken care of!!

Glad to hear everything is back in motion. Once you are ready I'll want to order the wings to go with my cradle.

Maybe a dumb question, but will the winch cradle and wings bolt up to a 1987 1-ton crew cab? Are the frames the same at that point? Definitely not a rock crawler but like your design. I'd also like to see a matching rear winch bumper. Maybe it would be easier to fit into a (1-ton) pickups rear frame?
any word on the 1-tons? I would be interested in one for my 86 k30.
great design and thanks in advance!

Hey I'm about to have my blazer running again and I'll be needing a bumper soon. Did you figure anything for 73-80 frames yet?

Well, after a long crunch week trying to get a bunch of customer vehicles ready for the holiday weekend, we managed to fit in our latest prototype... ...A K5 High-Clearance winch plate/cradle/builder's bumper, or whatever you want to call it :) Check it out...

After Painting and installing a winch...

And Finally, we made some mods to the design to help clear the winch motor a little better, and make it a pinch simpler to build, and also added a couple little gussets to strengthen the mounting points that tie into the anti-sway bar mounts!

...and I'll leave you all with that for the weekend... Right now, I'm off to the mountains for a much, much needed camping/wheeling vacation with some friends!

Talk to you all soon,
Darren

Are these still for sale?

Yes, I am making these on a limited basis for everyone here on the forums now. I am only making them as orders come in, so there will be a little lead time from when you order to shipment.

Oh, and any pm's that didn't make it over the last couple days have been re-sent!

ok how much are they

I am glad to see that you are back in bussiness!! Do you have a estimate on how many inches that gap is between the valance panel and front panel of the cradle? I'm thinking about access to the freespoool lever. Also, have you thought about something for drainage? Would a slot across the bottom be okay so as to give enough for mud and such to get washed out? I just thought more than holes in case a rock gets in there, even while winching, it can get out to save the winchline.

I really want to get funds so I could get one with wings!!! Cool product!

The gap is enough so that you can get your hand in there reasonably easy, however a Westin/T-Max/Smittybilt winch is nice in there since you can "clock" the freespool lever forward just a little bit and have really easy access to it. Other brands I'm not exactly sure how easy it is to move that lever around.
As far as drainage goes, there is a reasonably sized hole behind the winch to allow water and mud to get out if there is some in the middle of the cradle, however the sides are open and don't but up real tight to the frame rails, so most debris can just come out there. I don't think there would be much issue with it, but mud out here in Colorado is pretty scarce, so I haven't personally experienced super deep swamp mud with one. :)
