Twostrokes 91 K5 build

Off topic word of advice-DONT BLOW A KNEE OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF A STAIRCASE REBUILD! Me no likey walkin the stringers on Vicy.
Been painting to keep busy and must admit I dig flat black. I was also getting ready to sew (WTF) some black material onto my grey sunvisors when much to my pleasant surprise-they are black abs to begin with:thumb:. This falls right into my wanting to make everything as water resistant as I can, less work ta boot.
Anyways Ill be doing more "MACHO" stuff asap and will keep at it everyday regardless.
Still looking for that CK5 wisdom on my bedliner paint spraying question and vibration dampening for the batt/compressor box. So dont be strangers...
Thanks for looking and later,
Dustin

Hey Chief, Its another torn medial meniscus (3rd, 1st this knee) and requires some cutting. I meet w/doc fri to sched surgery and hope to be healing/healed by T-day.
Your build is looking most excellent and way to jump into the oxy/acet & welding. Looks like you did a great job.:waytogo:

I have two new best friends:

Nice. What did you use on that frame?

For the frame I used the Duplicolor bed liner paint just cause GI Joes had it for $30 a gal. at a tent sale and it goes on real easy with a brush. The roller in the kit isnt so useful imo but brushes allow you to apply it easily and everywhere. I have also used Herculiner and like that stuff alot but its a tad more costly.
Im headed to the hardware store to get some more brushes, I want to do one more full coat which will make 3+ total.
I have seen people using the rust bullet paint and heard nothing but good from them but like I said "$30 a gal." and I cant go wrong- I bought 2
Take it easy,
Dustin

Thanks Rick,
Im over in the Canyon/Pioneer area and always home, come by anytime-
The D60 was just constantly watching Craigslist untill I got it. Took some patience though, theres alot of military axles that guys are asking $1800+ for. Mine were $800 for the pair out ot an 88 1ton srw in excellent cond.

Im working on the batt/air box but still waiting on some parts. Should workout nice-

The Duplicolor Bedliner, is that stuff pretty durable? I am going to be completing the second coat of rust bullet on my floorboards soon and was thinking of shooting the Hurculiner but if the dupli is durable I might go that direction. Looks Great by the way....

I cant say much about the Duplicolor durability yet, it seems to be drying/curing nice though. Ill be doing alot of underneath stuff with it (axles, gas tank skidplate etc...) so once I get a chance to trash it Ill know how durable it is. Rust bullet is much better im guessing but $avings played a factor in my decision. I have Herculiner experience and always watch for that stuff on sale. I like it and the fact that it fades when exposed to sunlite is fine by me. I got a gallon of it waiting to go over interior of the blazer again.
Thanks and take it easy,
Dustin

So havent done a hole lot lately but got the gauges pretty much mounted up to the bezel with some 1/8" aluminum. Need to get some more allen head screws to hit all the corners with.

The monitor was there before and used to display gps so ill keep that there. Above the heater controls is room for expansion.

Also did alittle work on the batt/air box

:waytogo:That thing looks sweet. I am thinking of replacing my originals with some after market stuff. How did you set that thing up, i.e. the original bezel, you covered it up with aluminum. would the gauges not fit in the original holes? and as for hooking up the wiring, did you cut the connector off for the printed circuit and then following wiring diagram reconnect to the guages?

1st of all I just checked out your restoration and all I can say is :bow::bow:.
You have done a remarkable job:thumb:.
Thanks for the compliment but when I see all the awesome work done by others here well, I have so much to learn. Just glad to have a place like this to learn from.
The bezel required major trimming/cutting to stuff the guages/indicators in. I will be putting the indicators-4wd/check eng/blinks in the blank on the right and some lighting/misc switches. I had to epoxy a piece of plastic back on the bezel for one of the panels to attach to, got ahead of myself with the body saw:doah:. I originally cut and bent 1 piece of 1/16" aluminum for the guages but decided to do it in panels for easier troubleshooting/removal in the future.
My difficulty getting around has caused me to focus on small stuff so bear with me and Ill get to crackin on the big stuff asap. My detroit for the rear should be hear Monday so Ill be back on the rear end and try to button that up.
Take it easy and thanks alot for looking:D,
Dustin

Thanks for the . Glad you liked. As for the guages, nice job once again. What I was thinging of doing was just using the stock bezel and install the guages inside ( i don't have as many guages in mind that you do) so they look kinda stock if they will fit that is. On your oil presure guage is that a wire sensor guage or did you have to use the darn plastic tubing? Thanks for any info.. Once again, Nice Job Bud..:waytogo:

You can do that no problem with 2 1/16" guages with little cutting. I put a tach where the fuel guage is (next to spedo) and a 2" fuel guage in the bottom left blank before I started this project. The pressure guage is tube but copper and easy to run. I think you can see it in the pic of the cluster harness. The air pressure guage came with plastic though:(.

Worked alittle with the snorkel today. Got cold in the garage so Ill wait untill tomorrow to heat and bend it to the window frame. Cut the air cleaner housing and welded the small seam and reinforced it with a piece of saw blade, its to flimsy otherwise to clamp down on.
Take it easy-
