Twostrokes 91 K5 build

Snorkel???

Nice, I dont plan on getting into that deep of stuff to need a snorkel but that thing looks tuff..... :wink1:

nice build, too bad your rig isnt close, id wanna check it out. Subsribed for sure. Nice touch with the guages, looks way better then mine.

Just read through the thread, and let me say I'm impressed.

I love the out of the box, or should I say, in the box thinking.

Snorkel is sweet, too. How about some more pics of it from farther away if you can?

I'm interested in that air setup, too, I'll start researching, but if you have any links handy that'd be helpful, too.

I love the way you layed out the center of your gauge panel. Great use of space, good symmetry, and very functional. If it was me I'd trade the water and trans places with the air and vac, so I'd never get in trouble using tunnel vision, but you probably have reasons for setting it up the other way, or don't have tunnel vision problems. :wink1:

What's the blue box with the clear cover above the air tank?

I'll be paying close attention, maybe you'll inspire me to get back to work.

Thanks alot. Hows it going with your truck? Did you get it taken care of?
I need to decide on a locker for the 60 so I can get the gears I got from you installed and under the truck. Got my Detroit for the 14b and will give putting that in a go tomorrow.
My whole family is in or around SJ so Ill have my truck down there at some point and maybe we can go hit Hollister (go HayBalers!) or something.
Take it easy-

youd better not be in SJ when i am home for xmas, cause i wanna see this thing, i may or may not have mine home. I cant decide if im going to take the train ($77) or drive ($200+) home for break. i duno if i can leave my baby down here all alone though

Thank you kindly. I have been very impressed with your work and inspired by it. My battery setup, while not as complete as yours, will be similar with acr/solenoid. I have a question for you but will answer yours 1st.

The snorkels from http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=174899&highlight=snorkel+install and was something I always wanted to do after drowning:eek1: a K5 I had in upstate NY years ago. Took some more pics but I cant get any real distance from my truck, garage is pretty full:doah:. I need to heat and bend it to conform to the window but am waiting for a second set of hands to do that. I dont want to take any chances and want to keep it as smooth as possible at the bend. Thankfully the write up shows and tells of problems to watch for and I will hopefully not repeat them.

The air system was something a member here (Brodie) gave me the idea for after talking about the York setup with him. I did a search and found this http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=214780 . I went to Costco (great return policy) bought two compressors for $50 a pop and basically copied the York install writeup in the tech section. I used the fire extinguisher for the air tank, tapped the head on that for everything including the safety valve and stuffed it all in a box I had taking up space in my garage. Got the valves and switch at Grainger. Im putting my amplifier in the box to use up the space and keep it by the batts.

The gauges are gonna be cool (not Ryoken cool, but cool) and the only thing Im certain of is the placement of the spedo-fuel-tach. I might swap all four on the left with the four across the bottom but still not sure.

The blue box is just a Pelican waterproof box I had laying around and Im not sure whats going in it yet:confused:. Open to ideas?

Now for my question? What model# Blue Sea acr and starter solenoid do I order? I looked on Ebay and didnt find alot of choices but noticed you got a screamin deal on yours.

I dont know how to insert pics in the text so her they are.
Thanks,
Dustin

I should be here. My truck will be for sure. Hope you can bring your truck home Id like to see it. $77 and relaxation is hard to beat though and by then who knows what gas will be:doah:.

Take it easy-

go detroit for the front, there great. If steering is a concern, find a powerlok that takes 35spline shafts. My truck is still down, but atleast i got it back from my Lake Tahoe trip in Aug. (expensive disaster) finally. Had to leave it on a family's property for 2 months because i blew the heads and timing chain is badly stretched. Ive since pulled the motor and a 454 is sittin in there ready to go, just need exhaust parts and a newly fabbed crossmember. Any time you wanna go to hollister, lemme know, i go there weekly when my truck works. btw, your build is outstanding and creative, keep it up.

Dammit Dustin you better hurry the hell up and do something with this. We're all getting bored now.

Josh,
How the heck are you? Been meaning to give you a call but now I can pm you again:thumb:.
Surgery is on Jan 4th so Im gonna hit it as hard as I can till then. Tomorrow Randys Ring & P is gonna rape me for around $1500 hunski for 5.13's and an ARB for the 60:doah:. The Detroit is sitting on the bench waitin for the gears to lock. Im gonna have an extra 14bff w/3.73s in it or 4.10's to go in it if you need or know someone.
I could actually use some help to heat up my snorkel and have an xtra set of hands to set it with. Interested? Got beer!:D
By the way, I put some temp stair steps in so Im not walkin the stringers on Vicadin anymore:haha:.
Glad to here from you and hope things are great. Ill call you tomorrow.
Dustin

Got lost in my searching and have a rim ? for the experts. Quick recap of parts: 91 K5 w/ 14bff from 84 3/4 ton (will disc later, drums now), srw d60 from 86 1ton and 37/12.5/17 Pro Comps w/6" lift and I will be cutting on the rust free fenders:doah:. I want to order up my black steelies (Discount tire? Or have a better suggestion?) and am not certain of backspacing. I probably should have been able to find searching, but didnt, mostly 15" grinding stuff. I dont want to end up with a Tijuana stance (footprint).
Thanks alot,
Dustin

A little update- axles are geared 5.13, detroit out back, Arb up front. Will be doing my disc conversion today and get back on this so I can enjoy the summer months using it! I obviously have lots to do but, again, the time to do it. Just resurrecting this for inspiration and help. Ill update regularly and try to keep it focused for any interested.
Thanks in advance for any and all help and WOO HOO!
