Ultimate Tow Rig Ideas

Actually, this was for a '93 international with a declared value of $15,000...doing it the legal way. :wink1:

I'll see what the local insurance agency will do for me and go from there.

The way I see it, I can get a medium duty truck, put a rig on the back, and pull my current trailer, or do a cluster**** swap and register it as a 1-ton and pull a giant gooseneck behind it.

I'd rather do the medium duty if it's feasible, but I was initially turned away by the DMV and put off by the insurance company. Now I've got some figures that I can play ball with.

here is a good picture, and why not keep the medium duty rear end?

That bitch is TALL!!! :eek1:

Cool lookin, but I wouldn't wanna drive it cross country.

Take the BUS!..

Several racing enthusiasts here have bought old school busses for cheap money, with diesels (Usually International's,they seem to be the most common here),and they cut off the back half of the bus, enough to make a car hauler ramp flatbed, and leave about 10-15 feet of "bus" to convert to an RV/ sleeping and cooking "room"...then register it with "Camper" plates..all it needs is self contained plumbing to be considered a "camper" here..

Now you have a car hauler,a place to sleep and cook, and eat,(and poop!:wink1: )heavy duty drivetrain, and a cheap way to register and insure it!..only disadvantage is no 4WD,but even that could be added if you can find a matching ratio front 4x4 axle, and add a divorced transfer case..but I'd say a bus would not need 4wd very often unless you plan on wheeling it too..

Although, I'm not quite sure I believe you, considering you can't seem to find the cummins. :D

Thems fighting words:mad:

Don't start somethin' Brett, I'll make Drey buy a whole bunch of zip ties again. :haha:

I personally say no way that it would reliably work.

The extra 400lbs up front with the DT vs. the Cummins isn't terrible, but after you factor in another 250-400lbs (?) from that big trans and I believe thats too heavy for a D60. Especially if you then stack the weight of a gooseneck on there too (you're going to tow of course).

Besides, I see no purpose in using a DT466 other than maybe a better price on an engine.

A 5.9 Cummins is a better engine, when you factor in the huge aftermarket that it has, trans options, and the punch vs. weight it has.

I plan on putting a 5.9/47RH auto in my 1 ton K30 Crew Cab service truck.

If you really want to be adventurous, I'd be looking into a Duramax repower in a crew cab. Now THAT would be cool.

;) That's the point. Seen the price of a remanned or usable 6bt lately? I'm a college kid.

oh yeah..its got a international 7.3 with a banks turbo on it (definitly not fast though in any means)...2 speed rear axle with a c6 trans...

A C6???

yeah ford trans...you run the 2 speed rear in low till about 15 mph then gow to high..its not a fast truck at all but i will roll about 60 mph or so...you could prolly pep it up and it would do more...

DT466 is a good engine it's more of a heavyduty service engine than where as a 5.9 is more of a medium duty engine your not gonna be "bombing" it so theres no need for aftermarket parts . plus parts are cheap and just a available as they are for a 5.9 . and as diesel4me mentioned you can get a whole school bus for cheaper than running 5.9

Well put, and I'd really like to only buy one of these babies once or twice in my lifetime. I can stand being down a little bit on power from a bombed cummins for a stupid long service life. Besides, a factory trim HT570 puts out 700 ft lbs at 800 rpm and 1150 ft lbs peak...how much power does one need? What will a bombed cummins do reliably while moving 26,000 pounds at speed?
