Unbreakable drivetrain?

Actually neither of those have planetaries at the hubs. The hummer has a portal hub which lowers the gear ratio at the hub, just not with a planetary gearset. With a planetary, the input and output shafts are on the same axis. With portal axles, the output is lower than the input. Rocks don't have any gear reduction at the hub.

From what I have heard rocks aren't that much stronger than a D60 or 14B unless the shafts are upgraded. Plus with Rocks you need to run huge lift to get the top loader to clear the oil pan.

I think the OP's best bet is D60/14B.

Rockwells are much stronger than a 60... I assure you that. With all the guys I see running tractor tires... no way a 60 will hold up to 52 inch tractor tires like the Rocks do.

You dont realy have to lift the crap outta your truck to get the rockwell to clear the oil pan. just link it with the axle infront of the balancer. driveshaft angles will be lil funny but approach angle would kick ass. I got a buddy with unimogs and 42 irocks on a YJ. he runs a C4 auto and a 1:1 tcase b/c with the mogs hes got to much gear. but its a sweet ride.

I dont believe in the weak link concept... I think you should try and make everything as strong as possible.

I read someplace to try and make your tires (Or the type of tread they have)the weak link, as in they should lose traction and slip before they over strain the drive train.

Of coarse I"m running boggers in the rocks, so I guess I never payed much attention to it. But in away, it does make some sense.

I'm not saying it can't be made to work, I just don't think the OP is looking at that much custom work. Even with the axle in front of the engine (which would prolly require full hydro steering and as you pointed out, all new front suspension) the driveshaft is going to be up pretty close to the oil pan/exhaust with low lift. He is riding with quads, not Bigfoot. :D

my 91 truggy has 49s on it an the top of the exo is just about 8 feet with a 125ish wheelbase. did exactly what your ralkn bout, just moved the axle forward when i built my 3 link. still runnin bumpstops and limit straps just in case. and yes i can assure everyone that hteres no way a dana 60 will hold up like a rockwell. but they shouldnt, the friggin rocks weigh over 600 lbs each. i think ima go domn to a 46 inch tire.
