URGENT!!!!!!! need help *update 3-12-08*

Unplug the timing connector near the brake booster.
Hook up the timing light sensor to the #1 plug wire. The other cables go to the battery.
Loosen the distro hold down clamp. (9/16 wrench)
Start the truck and set the timing to 0. Tighten down the distro.
Turn the truck off and re-plug the timing connector.

oh ok! thanks. and the clamp on the distro were would that be located? and all I need to do is loosen it up?

You will see a bolt holding a clamp to the intake manifold at the base of the distro.
Loosen that bolt just enough so that you can rotate the distro.

well. . . truck still won't start. wires are plugged in the right location on the distro. brand new wires (the last set was a cheap set from the zone and wasn't plugging into the plugs correctly) bosch.

so can I do the timing if the truck won't start over?

if not I guess I'll pull the distro over and bump the motor over till it's at the #1 spot. but when I do that do I just turn the motor on till I fill air come out of the #1 plug?

thats all I really need to know before I go out side and mess around with the truck.

Do you have a spark. My 88 woulnt start and it was the coil. Also you can check the module. Didnt read the whole thread so dont know if you checked that already.

yeah I have a new coil, wires, plugs, module, rotor, cap. I'm getting spark and fuel. new fuel pump and filter.

pull the number one plug, stick your finger in the hole to make a seal, bump er over till you have air push out, then your really close, then use a ratchet and get it lined up exactly with the balancer and youll be at TDC(assuming balancer marks are all right).

ok. so stick my finger in the #1plug hole while someone turns the truck on? then use a ratchet on the balancer till I get it in the right location? is that correct?

what about the distro? do I pull that mofo out once I find tdc? and stick it back in so the rotor points at the #1?

while you got your finger over the hole, just have someone tap the ignition. dont hold it on, just quick taps of the ignition until the air pushes out, then you should see the mark on your balancer very close to your timing tab.

once you got the engine straight on TDC, pull the cap and see how close the rotor is to #1, if its no where near take off the hold down clamp, pull the dizzy out and get it pointing to one and stick it back in.

ok! i got the truck at tdc. the timing mark is at zero. the rotor is facing the #1plug. all of the plugs are plugged in and there connected in the right spots on the distro.

now I try to fire it up and it's shooting flames out of the tbi!

any idea's?

need input guys!!!
