Vapor lock

Did you check for a filter in the carb inlet? If it's got one in there it's probably in the same condition.

Takes all the fun out when you have these problems.

I know there is an in carb filter in q jets but I assume it's probably fine because there were 2 fuel filters in the lines from the tank to the carb, the one on top of the tank( which was trashed) and then another right before the carb, which looks decent, though I am going to replace it tomorrow. Here's the new tank installed, didn't fit quite as well as the stock one but it was good enough for 150 bucks shipped. My gas cap also doesn't fit the new tank. Which is sorta weird but I geuss I can find a bigger one.

Think I'd give them a call about the tank. On a classic truck tag at would be a important to me that the correct gas cap doesn't fit.
Do you know the manufacturer of the repro tank?

Well, hate to be negative, but if it's not correct. I dont k like it.
Says for EEC at the bottom.
Did you shop around.

EEC is evaporative emissions control. It's a 72 thing. Mine has it.

That is a beautiful truck, I love the color.

Try using a gas cap for a 71, it will probably fit the bigger neck.

The fuel filter at the fuel tank is going to cause problems, do yourself a favor and remove it as it is not needed. The strainer in the tank will keep the big chunks out of the fuel pump and filter before the carb will keep the carb clean.

Dont think I'm trying to argue with you, I'm not, but why would the fuel filter cause problems? I thought it would help. And you think a 71 gas cap will work? That may be the case because I believe this tank is for 70-72 so they may have used the bigger filler neck to accommodate for 71s or something?

The problem with a pre-pump filter is when they get even a little bit dirty they will restrict the fuel flow to the pump and cause a greater vacuum in the fuel system and lower the boiling point of the fuel even lower than modern fuel already is which will then worsen your vapor lock issue. Your best bet is to leave that filter out since it isn't really helping anything anyways. Depending on how much alcohol they put in your fuel on the east coast (it's a huge problem here in Utah) you may end up installing an electric pump right at the fuel tank to push (pressurize and raise the boiling point) the fuel to the motor instead of sucking (apply a vacuum and lower the boiling point) the fuel up to the motor. Hope that helps.

1972 is a stand alone year for the fuel cap and is smaller than the previous years if I remember correctly.
