My 97 Dodge Cummins 2500 4x4 (and everyone elses) has a dana 70 and the complete authority for those vehicles, the Dana 70 & Dana 80 is tdr.com (turbo diesel registry) The rear end itself is a nice heavy duty piece and I doubt you will hurt it. The extra webbing on that one is cool and unique. The powerloc LS is lacking and most recomend a Detroit in those rear ends if you want real traction.
The LS has been the topic of many, many post. Personally I have never had any problems with mine, currently at 325,000 miles...but I would say the vast majority of owners don't care for the powerloc LS. As noted they are rebuildable....but even in "like new" condition they are prone to slippage at the worst time and act more like an open diff than an LS.
Congrates on the find...stick a locker in it and your done.
On the that 70HD, I would say that 94-97 Dodge 2500, 8800 GVW rear hubs would fit. If they don't fit, the 3500 series Dodge hubs should. I'm not sure about the years but Dodge used the D70 on the 3500 series for a awhile, before moving to the Dana 80.
