Wage92's 78 K5 Build

Setback in the engine build, have the pistons in but got the wrong rings so need to figure that out. Worked on the cage some and mounting the seats, should have another good update over the weekend.

I think the frame tie ins look pretty good, yea im sure you could do it a different way and it would be stronger, but im proud of it.

This is awesome.

Im having motor set-backs too. Got a pretty good ridge at the top of all my cylinders. Fack.

Keep up the work man.... youre my idea train

Im gonna ream it. They make a special tool for it. Then im gonna run a ball hone through it

that should work, had a buddy do that and it turned out fine :thumb:

Yeah, ive got a good friebd of mine who is like an sbc extrordinaire. His dad raced with joe white back in the day. They still hold world records. They built a NA 272 in a 68 camaro tyat was running low 10s, high 9s

gotta love a classic sbc :woot:

Got the seats mounted over the weekend! Harnesses mounting points are next.

I have 3 point harnesses for the seats, im curious how you guys have mounted them in the back? The harness seems to have tons of extra slack, and it goes out the back hole of the seat and all the way down to the ground....gonna have to do something creative to mount them...

Ive seen cross-bars behibd the seats. Both, just off the floor, and about shoulder-blade level.

What kind of bender are you using? Also, tubing notcher?

bender is a jd2 that i picked up cheap on craigslist a few months ago, and for notching ive been just using a milling machine at work with a fixed vice and hole saw, sort of a pain in the butt because when i need to notch something i gotta get a good mark then take it to work and make sure its set up right, but so far they have all been good notches and i saved the money from buying a notcher.

Got the harness mounts in today, and also a cross member to loop the harnesses around.

Also, welded up a battery box out of some left over metal, that i will mount on the firewall. Came out pretty good i think, welder was giving me some problems, probably should have had it set hotter, but i didnt wanna warp the metal a ton. Need to paint it now.

Waiting on some parts in the mail, so got some work done on the dash.

One more hole to drill with a hole saw at work, and then i gotta tap a couple and it should be ready for fitment and paint.

Dash mostly good, couple more tweaks and it will be ready to take apart and paint.

Waiting for some metal to finish the roll cage and just got piston rings today, so i can continue on the engine.

Next step is finishing the cage, making sure the interior all fits and works. then disassembling it all and painting the floors and everything, then reinstalling everything...hopefully for the last time :thumb:

Been working on the engine, ran into another problem, ordered some parts, wont be here til friday...:doah:

And its suppose to rain all week so working on the k5 is probably out of the question. :eek1:

In the same boat man. I've been trying to get my truck buttoned up, and the weather/fuel pump/money isn't cooperating with me :haha:

Wicked busy this week, working a full day then coming home and basically working another one on the k5, i want this thing done!

Worked on the k5 for 12 hours today, got everything from the back up to the firewall all wired. steering column, dash, lights and everything. Waiting for speakers to show up and i need to fit them to my rear panels and then i will put all the interior together. I feel like the wiring near the fusebox could have been a little neater, but it wasnt easy getting everything nice when there are so many wires haha, i give lots of credit to those of you that have rewired a vehicle.

some pictures....

Have some more organizing to do and a gotta attach the high beam foot switch. and once i have the engine bay wired there are a bunch of wires that arent going to be used that i will cut. Those are the ones in the coil hanging out of the transfer case hole.
