Is the water pump in a 1990 K5 with a 350 standard or counter rotation?
I feel that! Trying to get parts for my R30 dually, and they kept giving me the wrong stuff! When it comes to these 1988 to 1991 Chevy trucks you have to be real careful what the auto parts store sells you. I have a 1991 V series truck, and I cannot tell you how many times a parts store handed me a part for a C/K gen-4 truck instead of a V/R gen-3 truck.

IF you can start it, see whoch wY the nelt spins the pump. But o believe that IS correct about the serp beltIs the water pump in a 1990 K5 with a 350 standard or counter rotation?
@Bent77 would agree with my bad spelling ..... we got a thread for you in the loungeIF you can start it, see whoch wY the nelt spins the pump. But o believe that IS correct about the serp belt
........... but yes your info is good .
Actually My 1991 V3500 Crew Cab is a bit of a bastard. The 350 TBI engine came from the factory with V-belt on the Steering pump and AC. Then a ribbed belt on the Alt. Thus, my water pump is a clock wise rotation pump. I have to be real careful what water pump I buy for my truck because all the parts catalogs say what you posted is correct. But the water pump should be the same! Everything went serpentine by '89.

GM did this on some car applications too in the mid to late eighties.Have seen this belt set a bit, can't say year and model any more
tarussell knows his sh!t. He just does not like cops...GM did this on some car applications too in the mid to late eighties.
Changing to the benefit of the multi-grove belt which offered more surface contact for much better grip and less slippage as the belts aged.
But as usual they didn’t go all out on each belt drive accessory right off the bat - most likely the bean counters had major influence on this because changing the other accessory drives to the wider multi-groove belts would have required more real estate on each pulley in addition to new brackets for the other drives. The alt was an easy change over before the major shift to the serpentine drives and the last of the breed of squares seemed to be stuck with existing parts for the remainder of the model run.
I remember going to GM held shop seminars for mechanics and they would promote the effectiveness of the new multi-grove belts system for the alt’s and we would ask why the A/C and power steering pump didn’t get the better grip set up as well and all the rep would say is that “it’s coming soon”.

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then….tarussell knows his sh!t. He just does not like cops...![]()

I went in the parts store and chose the oldest person work’n the parts counter in hopes of gett’n somebody with half-a-brain when I was in search of a starter bendix for a standard Chevy old school starter - well, the guy had no idea what I was talking about. And now when you say K5, they bring up parts for a Kia![]()
That is why I go to napa.I went in the parts store and chose the oldest person work’n the parts counter in hopes of gett’n somebody with half-a-brain when I was in search of a starter bendix for a standard Chevy old school starter - well, the guy had no idea what I was talking about.
I had to show him on the exploded parts diagram what it was…
