From what I recall, with a welded front diff aren't there issues with turning because the tires are forced to spin at the same speed? Wouldn't that still happen whether or not the truck is in 4wd? Even if the shaft isn't getting powered, the diff still spins so the problem would still arise right?

Alot of guessing on my part, hehe, just wondering how much is accurate. Thanks.

If you have selectable hubs, it should turn just fine. If you have auto hubs or slugs, its very hard to turn on hard surfaces.

Yep chaddy hit the nail on the head. your only freedom would be unlocking the hubs. just get hydro assist and call it good.

This is what I have and it will not turn on pavement will hubs locked and in 4wd. Well, it will turn but in a parking lot or moving slow and turning sharp you get a lot of people looking at you funny:D.

I run hydro assist and the turning of the wheels is not the issue it is the tires wanting to move through the same arc due to wheel speed. I can unlock hubs and leave it in 4wd and it has no ill effects on drive ability other than the slight mileage difference.

But even in 2wd with the hubs locked it acts just like it was in 4wd when it comes to turning. On dirt I have gotten used to it. I found I can blip the throttle if in a tight turn and the front end will come right around. Almost like a mini front dig with a weak 20 year old stock motor:D.

For the cost of the mod I cannot complain about the end result.

In two wheel drive with hubs unlocked turns fine. 4 wheel drive hubs unlocked turns fine (but then that really isn't 4 wheel drive). 4 wheel drive with both hubs locked it really wants to track straight, rear tries to push front end straight, turning is not very good especially on pavement.

What I do is lock in the hub on the long side and leave the other one unlocked unless I need both locked.

I do have hydro assist so that helps, but in 4 wheel drive with hubs locked I can turn but truck still tries to go straight.

Thanks guys, that cleared it up. It's not for me, but I was talking with a coworker and he wanted to know before he did it because if it acted like it does with the hubs locked all the time, regardless of the locks, then he said he won't do it.

Thanks again.
