Welding

@AV8TER that's amazing if it's really a human weld and not robo weld!

I was considering taking a night class in welding or asking my neighbor to show me sometime.

Although I love to learn and my mechanical ability is limited-- somewhat by choice, I guess, as I grow my nails out when it's "Mary Kay Season"-- one of the main reasons I don't actively pursue welding is the reason I am on this site: I love unique vehicles that are easy to work on and modify. Thus, to be totally honest, if I knew how to weld I'd likely be buying up every remotely-interesting cheap vehicle for miles around and be building Mad Max-type vehicles as a hobby. Really. That's the #1 main reason I resist the urge. I'd probably have so many that I wouldn't be able to decide which to drive. I think I get this from two families that I grew up with, where the parents and older kids did just that. I remember some of their wildest creations.

Does anyone here who grew up in the 80s remember Tonka Steel Monsters toys? My mom wasn't wild about them so I only ever owned the smaller ones, but my neighbors had the full size ones. To this very day those toys inspire me and some of the wacky ideas that lurk in my mind, of what I'd someday like to build. Hmm...time to go start another thread, actually! I've taken enough bandwidth here :)

Well I pulled the exhaust out the driver side and cleaned it up and. Pissed off a few neighbors when I fired it up open header on that side and about 2 grand it was kinda loud....

The first 2 pics is what I'm welding don't care past that it will be 24 inches or not past the. Sensor for the ego system

Love it. If it gets the job done its good enough. I have always said of my projects, "Its the best I can do at this point in time." Skills improve, tools improve, etc. I look at things I did 10 years ago and want to redo things but it kept me on the road. Every project completed improves your abilities. If you wait for perfect skills and a full fab shop things will never get done.

Going to let the Cooper etc set for a while then about 4 my time(2:26) I'll take her for a run see if it's better.

took her for a ride and found 4 spark plug wires jumped off the plug had to take needle nose pliers and squeeze the end of the wires from jumping off but looks like no leaks

And thanks blazinzuk

If you made that not leak on the first try that’s definitely better that I could have done the first time I welded something.

Today I get to learn about impurities in the weld.
I have a leaking weldlet in a system I'm installing. (Fire protection pipe)So I brought it home to weld. Ground down, ran a bead. Pin hole still came through. On the third try I ground all the way down and cleaned with acetone. Better but still not ideal.

What do you guys use in a case like this. Some flux paste maybe?

This is my initial grind so there's an idea of what I'm working with. The pipe is schedule 10

No, grind it out more. Clean all metal around it with a grinder.
Don't clean it with anything, some solvents don't evaporate like you would want. That's all I can give you without better pictures/info

Cut the whole damn thing off and get the entire thing back to clean metal. Then reweld. That way you cam guarantee its clean and solid.
