ohhhh CNG vehicles, im a fan. especially dual fuel diesel/cng vehicles. only makes sense depending on the cost of the two fuels, but Diesel Power magazine tested a silverado that put down full power, plus some extra, and got like 38mpg on the highway. (when just counting the diesel fuel). I ran the math on my M1009, and it wasnt cost effective on the prices around here. but when diesel was expensive, and if i could find CNG for .96 cents per gge, i woulda been on that like a fat kid on cake.

there was a guy doing the same thing to a jetta tdi, put the CNG tank in the trunk, he was aiming for 80mpg or better. dunno how that turned out though.

k5dreamer...i run propane injection on my cummins, gets me about 30% better mileage, a hair less when you factor in fuel costs. it'd be easy to set your CUCV up with it.

And that litttle opel speedster warms my balls.

heres my "other' car, 45mpg, COLD AC.

my Toyota Ter....... I mean Chevy Nova....

1 owner, church-going granny.... 70,000 miles..... $500.... runs great...

Is it an auto or manual? I was looking for one of those.. precisely because they are an even cheaper Toyota.. but around here they are all auto's

auto... lame-o..

but hey, $500 for a boring creampuff, I'll take it.. it's also carbed, little finicky, but nothing a Seafoam treatment here and there doesn't correct...

yeah, that was the ONE requirement i had when looking at the TDI jettas, there was no way i was driving a 90hp car with an auto magic slushbox. at least with the stick its a little fun to drive :)

Nice.. yeah for $500 and lower miles you can't complain.. in fact the low miles might be a mixed blessing. Sitting isn't good on cars either.. went through that on my burb when I got it at 99k original miles last year :doah:

I did a tune up and changed the oil today. God knows when the last time either was done.. oil was nasty and the plugs were fouled beyond belief. The slight sputter at idle is now gone :D

I can't leave cars alone.. I think it's gonna get a eurocam and a header :doah::haha:

I know I dig my little gas saver. But with it being a classic, it's not as "throw away" as something else I could have bought. This way though, I can still enjoy the vehicle and save a little.

hey tx, how do you like those tires on the yota? im looking at a set of 32x10.50's for my cherokee.

They seem pretty tough, with all the thorns etc we have around here. They seem to hold up well to that. I have as of yet to get a flat on them. But, with these old school brakes, you had better be paying attention at a red light in the rain, or your keaster will shrink down to a spec about this big . LOL They seem to work in rocks & mud (not as much mud time on these as dry as it's been here that last year) about average for a mud tire. They would probably work better on the street on a vehicle with anti-locks etc..

They came on the truck when I got it, but I think so far the best thing about them is just the toughness of the carcass for cactus, mesquites etc.

Got 25mpg driving it like a hill billy.. 120 miles of back roads is like city driving.. lots of shifting between 3-4-5. This thing is scarey... in my burb I usually top out at 60 on our little road course(Washougal River Road). In this thing, I have to pay attention because 65 or 70 is pretty easy cruising.

On the highway it starts to run out of breath around 80, though it will still cruise at the speed okay till you hit a hill. I don't have a tac so I have no clue what the rpms are. From what I've read the eurocam will make a difference here.

Needs tires soon.. before the rain starts. The treads on here now are just barely legal, but they break free from the pavement way to easy.

Ive got some 14's sittin around somewheres, your welcome to them.

Yikes.. did some quick math and posted it on another forum :eek1:

Recently I bought a piece of **** econobox.. 1990 Nissan Sentra 2dr. Fun to drive and pretty nimble tin can of death. Can't complain for $500... runs beautifully after a tune up. Has a new clutch and cv joints too.

Anyways today I ran some numbers to see what my net savings will be, and the results fell into the wtf category... as many know I daily drove a lifted Suburban, still have it and it is still my baby.. I've put 32k on it since I got it in February 2008.

So between the end of June and end of July I drove roughly 2000 miles and bought 187 gallons of gas at an average price of $2.70 a gallon and I spent $503. I'll do the math for you.. that's 10.7 mpg average. 35's and aerodynamics that resemble a brick don't help at all.

My 2nd tank through this car, first one not counting, I got 25 mpg doing mostly city style driving, I'm expecting about 30 on my mostly highway 26 mile one way commute to work.

I'm expecting my mileage figures to remain the same when school starts.. on days off I usually drive into the city anyways so.

So 2000 miles a month at 25 mpg amounts to 80 gallons of fuel and at today's current price of $2.89 is about $230 a month in fuel. Additional insurance is going to cost $70 a month for a net savings of $200 a month..

So if this piece of **** lasts me 3 months I'll break even, and I'm figuring she's got a lot of life left in her with good compression in all cylinders, a good clutch, and a trany that shifts smoothly. Now if I can just leave this bitch alone and not put money into making it a little piece of **** rice burner tuner I'll be good to go.

Why didn't I do this sooner.

well.... I was driving my 08 ford focus (amazing gas mileage) until i made my wife trade in her 4runner and get a full loaded 99 gmc suburban. I am sitting in it right now, and i left the focus at home... have done that all week actually. Sure the 454 dosent get great gas mileage on my 45 minute commute every day, but the heated seats are saving me the bill at the chiropractor!

I did that fuzzy math when I bought my Astro. Paid $800 for it it was paid for in three months and it only gets 20 mpg, will do it agian when it dies, or maybe put a new motor in it. :D
