Well I just got done pulling it home again...

They should be a Saginaw S44 joint Carquest # 2-3011. They are easy to identify as they use inside snap rings as compared to the Spicers that use outside snap rings. Make sure you install all the snap rings. If you don't install the snap rings on the yoke end the u-joint cap wil squirt out within a few miles because the yoke does not have any ears to hold the cap in place.

The joints came with the snap rings too, but I couldn't figure out how to get them in. Theres no lip on the end of the cap to pop them in...

The factory u-joints are melted plastic held in , so you wouldn't of seen a clip .

12 bolts are 1310 , that won't fit in your 10 bolt at all , 10 bolts are either called s44 ( old ) or 3r ( now ) .

Does your 10 bolt yoke , the axle one with straps , have "tits" to keep it centered ? If its tight and slipping the tits could be gone . In that case a clip on the grove of the cap may hold it on the inside of the ears from side to side movement like on a new 10 bolt .

Yeah, I don't see a little tit to hold it from moving back and forth. That's why I'm thinking about these Moroso straps that hold it centered.

The joints I knocked out of my shaft when it got tossed before were held in with clips, and there was no clip holding the caps on, other than just the straps on the axle yoke.....

A snap ring on the axle side is necessary?

No, my yoke on my axle doesn't have tabs on it anymore...You pretty much just have to guess at centering it then crank down the straps...

Also, does this mean I need a different type of u-joint on the t-case end? For the slip yoke?

Try the same clips as the tube side of the u-joint on the rear joint , some 10 bolts ( my 99 Sub ) has no tits and use those clips there too .

And listen to the above post by 38377k5 , clips go in the tube side <-----

But I don't understand, the only way to use them would be to put them on after you crank the straps tight I guess....

Man I feel like an idiot, wish I had a ck5er close to help a brotha out ;)

When you had the driveshaft out of the truck (when you were replacing the u-joint) you should have had to press the joint into the driveshaft and then install two snap rings to hold the joint in. Did you do that?

When you put the shaft back into the truck you only need to install the straps/u-bolts.

Your not an idiot . Picture the u-joint you pressed into the shaft , after pressing it on there you put a clip on the inside that came in the box , that clip keeps the cap from walking out of the tube .

It goes on the groove on the cap closest to the center of the u-joint .

Sometimes that same clip can be used to keep the caps walking out of the axle yoke too when your "tits" break ( look at late model GM's , I got this idea from my 99 Suburban )

Yes, the clips are on the tube part of the joint, but I didn't use any clips where the straps go, since there weren't any there to begin with.

I can't seem to find any 3r or s44 joints anywhere online....Anyone know where to get 'em?

Here are some quick pictures. Look where I am pointing with the welding rod. That area is machined for the c clip.
The second picture has the clips already on the joint.

So even after strapping the driveshaft down, you have to put the clips on there?

If your yoke doesn't have the lugs to keep it centered you put the c clips on the joint before you strap it in. That's what centers it so you can put the straps on. In the second picture it is ready to be bolted up.

Ah, I see, so all I really need is a new joint for the axle side and I just need to put clips on to keep it centered. Then I need to find some new straps, preferrably some nice ones like those Moroso's.

Can't seem to find any the right size though...

Sorry, I'm a slow typist. I've had the best luck getting the straps at a GM dealer. As someone else mentioned, any one that has spicer parts will probably have them.

So just the stock spicer ones will do fine? I was wanting those fancy ones because I figured they'd help hold the joint in place, ya know.
