Went to look at potential buy. Help me out

Along with Hammermachine, also in NJ and Smier but he's in PA.

Smier's is really nice and mostly stock.

Hammer's is lifted.

They are both in the classified section under complete vehicles. If you're looking for a woods truck I would point you towards Hammer's. Smier's is just too nice for that.

Hey if anyone wants to keep an eye out, I want a 87-91. The later the better. And minimal rust! lol

I shouldn't say woods truck. I don't go out looking to kill it but I do go out and have fun. I try to avoid any damage whatsoever. I need it to be dependable because I do want to drive it a lot too... try to keep my mustang low mileage

Here are some possibilities... guide me! lol

This one looks like a possibility but a little over my budget

First off, are you willing to commit to buying a vehicle that you may never get your money back out of? These trucks can be bought fairly cheap, but they are all over 20 years old, designed almost 40 years ago... Most that are out there will need to be almost completely rebuilt. My advice is buy as nice of a truck as you can afford, which may even require spending more than you would like to now, but if you find the right truck it could possibly save you money long term. Decide if you want a lifted or stock truck. There are lots of horribly lifted trucks out there, so read up and know what to look out for. A stock K5 on 33's is actually a very capable offroad truck if not abused. Colbystephens build threads have tons of real lfe experience with stock and pretty heavily modified K5's. Dieselndixie has a couple good threads of trying to purchase a K5, finding one, and then the fun and not so fun side of trying to build it to what he wants. Don't hesitate to ask questions, even if you think it's a dumb one. We've all seen guys buy a truck quickly, only to find they're in over their heads. I typically avoid heavily modified vehicles. It can suck fixing all the previous owners mods, repairs, and mistakes...

Oh yea I know lol almost never gotten my money out of anything I've bought. I would prefer a stock clean truck versus a rust bucket lifted which is why I came here for help first. I'm an impulse buyer, onto the next cool thing I think I want. If it wasn't for everyone's help on here, I probably would have bought that thing even though in the back of my head I was like this thing is rotted to hell. Can't thank everyone enough for so much help so fast. I should be a little more patient even though we're in a "recession" and stuff on craigslist gets scooped up fast! Got to find that happy medium and know that there will be more deals out there

Well, coming from experience, in NJ if someone says something is "rust free" chances are they are full of ****. I went through the same thing with my truck about 5 years ago and while it was clean on the outside, it needed a floor. My best advice is inspect everything with a fine toothed comb and if you're not sure of something or get a funny feeling, walk away.

Minus the running/driving part I hauled one that sounds about like what this guy is trying to sell you across the scales a while back. Mine had no motor. I got for free just by getting it out of a guys yard. I didnt really need it and had plans/ideas for it but was told pretty much completely wrong on it as to what it was, was told it was for sure an 88-91 model with fuel injected 350 and it ended up being a late 70s era with no motor, tranny, or transfer case. "Oh my cousin must have took it." YADA YADA YADA. I ended up taking it cause I was there and it wasnt far from my house and I knew I could keep some stuff and haul it off when done. Ended up not using anything because whole thing was mostly junk.

Good luck with finding one, good ones are out there. I wish I would have looked around for a better condition one before buying mine. It was a buddy deal and I thought I had to have it and I popped off the right price. Oh well, you live and you learn.
