First off, are you willing to commit to buying a vehicle that you may never get your money back out of? These trucks can be bought fairly cheap, but they are all over 20 years old, designed almost 40 years ago... Most that are out there will need to be almost completely rebuilt. My advice is buy as nice of a truck as you can afford, which may even require spending more than you would like to now, but if you find the right truck it could possibly save you money long term. Decide if you want a lifted or stock truck. There are lots of horribly lifted trucks out there, so read up and know what to look out for. A stock K5 on 33's is actually a very capable offroad truck if not abused. Colbystephens build threads have tons of real lfe experience with stock and pretty heavily modified K5's. Dieselndixie has a couple good threads of trying to purchase a K5, finding one, and then the fun and not so fun side of trying to build it to what he wants. Don't hesitate to ask questions, even if you think it's a dumb one. We've all seen guys buy a truck quickly, only to find they're in over their heads. I typically avoid heavily modified vehicles. It can suck fixing all the previous owners mods, repairs, and mistakes...
