Was A &B hitchs and exhaust in Hesperia. I had always heard good things. Unfortunately not for me. Maybe i expected to much, or they don't do anything but make it work.
 
Drove the burb to Cali today 216 miles. Ran great, vibrations that was bugging me, is greatly reduced, pinion angle change worked.
Still have a vibration, am thinking bent wheel now. I'll add checking wheel run out to my list.
 
I get ya on the tool box. I have some extra space beside my winch that is very handy for oil. I mounted my remote oil filter on driver's side inner fender but it was kinda cramped with that huge cruise control thing that's there. Albright winch solenoid is on the front slope of that same fender well, combine that with the extra battery that's on that side, there isn't much room. My transmission lines are on the passenger side so that is the logical place for a cooler but you have you tool box there. May need to get creative with your geometry to get it to fit on that side. I have some things to move around on the Jimmy this weekend so I will try to take a couple pics of how I mounted my stuff.

Keep with the updates Wes. Always a good read and good on ya for your perseverance. Chasing gremlins can be exhausting.
Joel, I see you mentioned a remote oil filter in the above post. Can you send some pics of the unit? Which did you use and what has been your experience with it? Thanks for any response

I will try to get some decent pictures of it today. I know that the parts were Derale, but not exactly sure of the model numbers right now. I did fight some oil leaks in the beginning but that was due to me making my own oil lines and not having the right tools for that. I went with premade hoses and those leaks stopped. I have a +3 qt oil pan so I couldn't go with a 2 qt oil filter. Enter the remote mount which also allowed me to go with an oil cooler which the Jimmy did not originally come with. Overall, I would definitely do it again, just with pre made hoses and be done.

Thank you, I can't wait to see them. My 454 rebuild should be done next month and I really don't like crawling under the vehicle to swap out oil filters. Granted that's not a problem overall but I would rather lean into the engine bay and take off the filters mounted on the fender.

Just ignore the wiring mess. I'm going to redo the dash in the next month or so and it will get cleaned up then. I took out the cruise control vacuum assembly and the AC compressor so that will help too.

nice. How do you keep it from spewing oil all over the place? Is it at an angle so it drains out when engine is off?

Also...I have another question from what I saw in the photos. Tell me about the transmission cooler on the driver side and why you did not put it in front of the radiator/condenser?

My mistake,...I looked further and it seems to be the oil cooler but still, I've never seen one installed like that. How does it work?

That oil cooler has a thermostatically controlled fan that is supposed to trigger at 190. I had it as hot as 185 and that was when it was 112 outside and I had my foot in it going uphill. So I guess it works okay. It does dissipate some heat just the way it is. I have never seen the engine oil temp get above the coolant temp at the bottom of the radiator (which is where my 2nd engine temp sensor is). I like my 400 so I did everything I could to make sure it stays cool during the summers here.

Its at a slight angle and do be honest, I am not sure if it drains back completely or not. Not all filters have a drain back valve either. Oil comes out of the engine, to the filter, to the cooler and back to the engine. And once the oil pressure drains off, there is no oil pressure in the filter so you can just unscrew it. Might leak a little, but easily cleaned up with a paper towel. Much easier than cleaning it up off your arm. Screw that. Even when I was chasing leaks due to my homemade oil lines, the only leaks I got, were just drips or high speed drips. Never any spewing of oil. All the spewing was on the inside of the block. :D

With my AC box removed (new Vintage Air system going in) I'm pretty sure I could stack an oil cooler and Tranny cooler mounted to firewall and place the remote filter close by.

That sounds doable. You could run the oil lines from the oil filter boss under the engine and up the passenger side. Should fit between the oil pan and the bell housing or transmission pan. Might pick up a little bit of heat there but not much.
 
Is that hot wire coming off the base of the filter a pressure or temp sensor? Do you have two temp sensors like you do coolant...I like the idea, you can see the temp of the fluid going back into the engine, not just what's inside.

That wire is a temp sensor. Pressure sensor is in the stock location, at least for now. When I put in my new gauges, I may put in a new pressure sensor. Not sure yet.
 
Have carb off, was running rich and dieseling at shut down.
I expected leaking well plugs and maybe an emulation tube in bowl.
None of that, is evident.
J B epoxied the well plugs, the front inlet plug had been seeping.
My fuel pressure is 6 psi, not horrible high, but I can't get it lower. The Holley fuel pressure regulator has a return to tank. Holley say 3/8" return line, I am using the 1/4" factory return.
Does anyone think that this might be why I can't get under 6 psi?

Some exhaust goodies arrived today. So can get ride of the carp exhaust recently put on

It could be. However, the factory setup would deadhead the pump against the float

Once it’s back together, I’d look down the primary side and see if fuel is bleeding past somewhere
 
Mine had a return at pump. 3/8" push on, inlet 3/8 flare out, and 1/4" push on back to tank. So I am using that.
