Not sure, I thought I read somewhere the cam bearing on a 6 are bigger ? Want to keep the roller aspect.

The GEN-VI cams use a stepped down front journal with a fitted cam plate and specific cam timing gear that’s clearanced for the thrust plate but should work in a MK-IV block with accompanying timing gear that’s clearanced - gotta see if the reverse is true.

The taller OEM roller lifters designed to work with the GEN-VI dogbones won’t work in a MK-IV block though.

Some people drill and tap the block to run a Gen VI cam in a Mark IV block so they don't need a cam button with a roller cam. You could run the opposite, but you would need a Mark IV timing set and cam button to keep the roller cam from walking forward. I recommend sticking with the Gen VI cam in the Gen VI block, it's easier to set cam endplay with the retainer.

That’s just wrong…. and I’d like to point out that YOU were the one who opened my eyes up to the world of big-blocks way back when I was just an innocent young pup completely content with a strong 350 and a lotta gear.
That day you had 42’s with only 4.56’s on your old ‘80 K-10 truck and stuck it in high range started cutting never ending doughnuts and sling’n buckets of heavy mud and the TH400 was able to hold second gear the whole time - it was then that I started my quest for my first 454 and within a week I had a marine big-block and I’ve never been the same since.

Now that I’ve seen the light there’s no putt’n this crack pipe down - we all need 632’s !

That's true, once you drive a decent big block, you don't want a small block any more, a 500 HP SBC is not the same as a 500 HP BBC, it drives completely different, part throttle torque is hardly comparable.

I’m all for it Wes! Though just remember telling people you like BBC’s in certain circles doesn’t mean what you think it does. :haha:

With my crude 13 year old humor out of the way, I have no doubt you’ll get pointed in the right direction on a cam and your path to the land of big block torque will be a fun one.

BBC has always only meant Big-Block Chevy to me but after reading your comment I went and googled “BBC” and went blind immediately !
I think my phone has V.D. now…

Ohhhh DAMN IT MAN !

I’m gonna go and curl up like a baby on the shower floor and try and wash that video off of me …
Now my phones definitely got some kind of STD and all the commercials I get from now on are gonna be questionable at best…

As a public service announcement I say to the others reading this post - DO NOT WATCH THAT VIDEO - just trust me; you will regret it so don’t do it.

This was my reaction

I should have put a qualifier on that statement. But dammit dude that has me laughing so hard right now.

Sorry Wes for the derailment.

I know better not to just follow a request like that.
I already get blindsided by some nasty meme pictures here no need to go look for more

Because it came from my Brother John I knew it was gonna be damn funny or even a little shocking but I was not prepared for that - now I gotta reevaluate our friendship… Up until now the worst thing he ever did to me was basically lock the doors in the truck and defile his draws greatly decreasing the air quality while I dry heaved and turned blue.

pulled the intake, and passenger head. Must have been run in salt water at one time, cooling system passages is kinda scaly. I pulled #2 intake and exhaust springs, the rotators on the bottom are rough, the keeper left a burr on the valve stems. they won't drop out with a little crocus cloth. Exhaust valve has @.006 wiggle with valve part open.
Bores are standard and look good. piston are flat with 2 valve reliefs. 20260510_135337.jpg

Now I am waffling about new new heads, or having machine work done.
I had settled on new rings and bearings for the short block, and a cam.
Gonna need to squirrel some more $$ away.

At least the GEN-VI flat top pistons used with the peanut-port heads offer a little more squeeze than the MK-IV dished pistons did - they were only 7.9:1.

I hope the head dilemma works out good for ya’ but to be honest I’m hoping a set of way better new aftermarket castings ends up coming your way - you won’t be disappointed!

.006" on the guides sounds like a lot to me, is that measured at the end of the stem with the valve barely open or closer to the guide?

If you need to spend money on machining I certainly wouldn't spend it on a peanut port. I am reminded of Foxworthy with a twist...

"If the ports are wider than they are tall...you might have a tiny port".

Measured at tip of valve with it partly open. Yes .006" is a lot, iirc the new built spec is .0015"

Yes that is the measured clearance, so you may multiply that a tiny bit at the tip of the valve stem, but certainly not 4X.
