what do you guys think of this efi kit?

We're waiting on the fuel pump/ filter kit for the El Camino and then we can fire that up. Still waiting on my kit and the other for the 57 Chevy.

Yeah my dad got his the same way I got mine....waiting waiting waiting then all of a sudden it shipped out of nowhere. Summit clearly doesn't want to make promises they can't keep...pretty understandable.

Yep, that seems to be the process. I'm just glad I'm not waiting on it. The old man is a little anxious since he want to bring the El Cam to Hot August Nights.

if i ever save enough money i plan on using these that summit sell they look better than the worm gear clamp
and they make em different sizes for your header or pipe

I wouldn't, better off welding a bung on.

Are you going up there? I'm gonna do a day trip. Too hot for doggo up there.

And welded bung ftw.

Did you weld the bung on the exhaust or use that clamp deal? I know some people have had bad O2 readings with the clamp on bung.
I actually had a bung welded already when I had to get some other exhaust work done a few years ago. Figured while work was already being done on there it would be good to prepare for putting in an 02 sensor.

I ended up lowering the idle RPM which helped a lot with it shutting off nicely when turned off. Still tweaking the settings to get the RPM to drop properly/quickly.

For less than that price I think a local exhaust guy could weld a bung on for you if you don't want to, and there is one in the kit so no extra parts needed to buy.

This. If you blow the hole in the pipe for the sensor I'd have to imagine it'd cost you 20-30 bucks or so to get a guy to tig it on.

No idea what purpose-made O2 bungs run anymore, but if the difference is worth it, the standard O2 threads are M18x1.5...you can buy a jam nut and weld it in as a bung.

The efi kit comes with the bung...it's a weird one I've never seen, it sort of takes the shape of the pipe. Jam nut is a good idea though.

So this isn't worth a ton, but I guy that I have known for years, installed a Fitech kit on his father-in-law's 454 crewcab.
He has been pleased with it so far. They ordered it, and got it ,plus installed in under 2 weeks!

ill order mine nov 3rd sad part is the fuel system by them is on back order and ill order it and it wont ship for a month and a half.but the kit ships right away.

FYI....

Those fuel pump kit dates have been pushed out for months. We've waited 3 months for two kits, one came the other date kept getting pushed so we cancelled the order. Bought the FiTech filters separately and a comparable summit inline pump. There has been some negative reviews on the FiTech pump as well.

I should also update our experiences with the two kits that we installed on my Dad's cars so far.

First was the El Camino with a Smeding 383 stroker (450hp/460trq) that was running a Demon 750 and a MSD E-Curve distributor and a 5spd tremec gear box. Biggest issue with this engine was the typical cold blooded carb issues, besides that issue it drove pretty good. This car also spends time in Tahoe at 6200'+ elevation then back down in the valley at sea level so EFI would had it's advantages there as well. Anyway, we installed the 600hp kit along with the MSD 85501 distributor (two wire locked down distributor) so the FiTech could control the timing. This car used the fitech fuel pump kit with the 100 and 30 micron filters and push lock hosing supplied with the kit for the supply line. We used the factory supply line as the return. Second crank it fired right up. The fitech pump is very noisy for anyone that's concerned with that however this car is loud so we can't hear it with the engine running. I wanted to install an in tank pump however my Dad didn't want to drop the tank, we'll probably end up doing that upgrade later with an aftermarket sending unit/pump assembly. Very impressed with the FiTech performance so far, it drives better and pulls better than ever up in Tahoe where the install was done.

Pic during the install.

The second kit was for the 57 Bel Air that was purchased with a pretty basic 350 SBC with a cam, older holley EFI with a 700R trans. The EFI never ran right, even after a trip to westech in So Cal it still had demons that continued to annoy my Dad so he bought a 400hp kit in the satin finish with a Edelbrock manifold. This kit won't control timing like the 600hp kit but we didn't feel it was necessary given the pretty stock engine it was running. We waited months for the fuel pump kit and finally last week after the ship date was postponed AGAIN into November we cancelled that order, bought the Fitech Filters and summit pump #SUM-250111. This car had EFI already so we had 6 AN running front to back for the feed and return so after a few odd fittings it was plumbed.

Again, this one fired on the second turn of the key however the motor had a nasty noise right away. It went from being an intermittent noise to a consistent loud tap. I was down in LA when he fired the engine over the weekend, he sent me a video and I thought it was a rod bearing noise. I asked if the distributor was seated all the way, thinking maybe the pump wasn't turning therefore starving the bearings. I told him to drain the oil and he sent me a pic of milk shake so we knew it had coolant in the oil....yesterday AM when I was back in town I stopped by and pulled the plugs, passenger bank's plugs were wet, smelled like gas. Got to #3 and found this gem.

This engine is coming out this week for a new GM Performance engine that's on order, not even going to mess with this one. I'll definitely be pulling the head off so I can find out what fell into the intake.

ouch, sorry about the engine. thanks for the part number on the pump cause im going to piece together something rather than wait 6 months for a pump that is having bad reviews. how did the summit pump do on the noise?

I wouldn't say it's quiet but not as loud as the FiTech pump. I noticed there is a couple fresh negative reviews from last week on Summit about the FiTech pump, I wouldn't order it even if it was in stock.

Skunked when you do your setup for fitech can you choose the idde speed? been reading alot about people having trouble to get it to idle.
