What do you need to do for BB13'

I thought blazer bash would be a good shakedown run :haha:

I'm thinking about repainting the truck. Does that count? :D

My youngest son is convinced the yellow paint attracts the wasps and yellow jackets. He kept telling me he likes Duane's first gen better than our truck because it's not yellow...

Hmmm...

Finish mounting 4 tires on 12 bolt hummer wheels

Remove 4 speed/241 and replace with th400/np205

Get rear CV driveshaft / long slip in front

put in 35 spline outers and new hubs

Put on crossover and hydro assist

put on the EFI that has been sitting in the box for months now..

continue saving money for 2.5" Kings and air bumps

I am going to go wheeling.

And get a new grille, the last one didn't survive the rollover

Actually I gotta get B_to_C's rig ready to run. Since he joined the State Dept a few years ago I'm in charge of getting his truck trail ready.

So it needs:
  • Steering ram mounted on high-steer tie rod so I can ditch the double tie-rod set up in there now. :rotfl:
  • Install new remote p/s reservoir
  • Clean up some scary under-hood wiring
  • Fix rear diff leak
  • Fix front diff leak
  • Fix oil cooler leak
  • Fix transmission leak
  • Fix transfer case leak
  • leak, leak, leak..... :doah:
  • Finish tcase skid plate

Sounds to me like it needs a match? I hear fire cures all those things:haha:

So now the real question is, When are you starting those things? About August 15th with the rest of the sheep or will you be our sheep herder?

I'm already planning for BB14...30$ a week for the next 100 weeks should bout pay my fuel bill.

Either Sunday or after work next week since the weather is still good. At least for the tires and 35 spline outers and hubs. Still need to have the TH400 gone through. It may or may not work as it's been sitting about 7 years and I don't know if it worked. I bought it from a parts truck.

Shock will be next year sometime..probably August :doah:

I shall say Sheep Herder for now.

The real question is will the shocks be deemed important enough for a thrash fest or can you see them in a box and leave them home cause the shocks that are on it work ok and will have to stay on for one more trip?

I think that's where a lot of the issues start. There's a vision that is great but the small steps between the starting point and the ending point don't get enough importance placed on them.

No shocks right now on my Jimmy. Worst case I can still wheel the K5 I took this year. $3k will allow me to chase Wade down the trails :D

I would love to make a future BB in my rig. (that's been parked for 2 months)

I'll play even though I have a hard time getting time off work Aug- the mid of October.

Critical stuff, I need to install doubler, have shafts built, make shock mounts, and mounts up hydro assist.
Redo exhaust.

Would like to do a rear torque arm before exhaust tho.
Down the pipe, bumpers, and sliders. Mounts 2 winches and another battery.

That about sums it up

I need to figure out why I keep breaking the front spring centering pins and fix it.

hmm...

Got the rear driveshaft today, so check

Need to run fuel lines,
install fuel pump
do all the engine wiring, I mean ALL,
mount radiator
install engine accessories
hook up p/s
finish trans crossmember
get front shaft made
fill all fluids
start and run it
then after it runs,
get a/c working before Moab
I'm sure there is more, but that about sums it up
shouldn't take too long now that it is cooling off out side.

the truck is 1987 4runner with a 4.3/4l60-e/np241 w/ sye, it should have enough chevy parts to participate. :D

In my experience use a grade 8 bolt with the head rounded off in like a bench grinder for your center bolt along with a lock nut. Then once your driving it check the u-bolt tightness OFTEN. I can get a little bit on mine after every few runs. I tightened them all up before leaving for BB this year and after wheeling grand junction and area bfe I checked them and got a touch more on them that next morning. My u-bolts are kinda old though so I am about to replace them in a few month....

countless leaks to fix
Cage
60
Doors
Tweak Motor till it Runs like its suposed to
Fuel injection
get rid of Wires add lights
New Brakes
Maybe new Springs ugh
Better Pay
C you all soon

Not to be an ass but tighten your u bolts. Like Mnorby says they need to be done VERY regularly. I would also make sure that the first few times a new u bolt is tightened that they hit torque several times.

In 2011 when I went with Stephen on UA we did u bolts in the shop, before the first trail day, <zero miles on them but they still took a bit, then about two days later and then again. That's like what four or five times in a week and 1,000 miles.

I actually talked to him the day after he had these problems. He had torqued his u-bolts the day before he left for the bash IIRC (130ft-lbs) and he was running grade 8 bolts with ground down heads .

I suggested something different that is easier to install and is a perfect fit, a grade 8 3/8" socket head bolt. I've been using those for a few years and haven't bent or broken one since I switched. I also use all steel interference fit nuts so they never come loose.
