what front end is this? its a dana, says 602f??

thanks 38377k5, thats pretty much what i wanted to know!

i'm going to see what they want for it, i would like to have the pto takeoff, shaft, and winch, then either sell it for my money back, or keep it like it is, minus the pto stuff, and run it in the unlimited/outlaw class at the local mud pit, until i break something, then part it out or scrap it!

The M715 NP200 had no PTO port or intergal PTO. It had two rear outputs, one to drive the rear axle which was offset to the passenger side and in line with the front output. The center output was for the parking brake. Alot of M715 guys switched the drive shaft to the center output to reduce heat at highway speeds.

As said above the Dana 60 carrier can be swapped for different gear at the carrier break 4.10-4.56.

The Dana 70 had 23 spline 1.5" O.D. axle shafts. It is plenty stout, just hard to find shafts for plus the ring and pinions are really expensive, because the pinion is offest by .475". The only traction add you can get is a limited slip (good luck finding one of those) and a detroit which goes inside the original carrier like a 14 bolt. Then you have to address the hub bolt pattern. A set of Dodge dually D70 8 lug hubs will bolt onto the rear axle, then you'll have to get the axle shaft flanges filled and redrilled to match the Dodge dually hubs, converting to disc brakes isn't that hard just use a 14 bolt kit with some more spacers and Ford rotors.

thanks for the replies, i think i will pass on this abortion of a truck, and just find me a pto unit to fit my sm465 or np205,...

i want a pto to run a hydralic pump for several ideas i have to run off of a pto hydralic pump!

This is how I interpret all of this (and from what I've heard)

As deadlew said the shafts are small both front and rear (not to mention the 50 year old metallugy and fatigue that they have), they have knuckle problems and they have terrible (and heavy) drum brakes.

There are two carriers for low pinion dana 60 carriers, one for 4.10 and numerically lower ratios and one for 4.56 and numerically higher ratios.

The closed knuckle 60 should use the same carrier and ring and pinion as any other low pinion D60. So yes, you can switch them (though swapping gears isn't nearly as easy as removing them from that axle and putting them in yours). The carrier will have 30 spline shafts, I have no idea if the 35 spline side gears from a newer 60 will fit that carrier.

AFAIK none of the OEM's ever put lockers in the front of a truck like that.

That D70 is not worth messing with IMO. The coarse spline shafts basically mean you will need to replace the carrier and shafts to do anything with it. If you really need gears lower than 5.38 (the lowest a 14 bolt can go) then get a newer D70.

The front outer is a 1.375" (compared to 1.31" for a stock Chevy 60) and the inner is 1.31" 30 spline and it uses 1480 series u-joints. The rear is 23 spline but is as large a later 35 spline 70. The rear is a .500" offset pinion which can make it a little harder to find gears for. The carriers are standard 60 and 70 items but will need the proper side gears for whatever application you choose for them.
