What tire pressure do you run while wheelin'?

Re: What tire pressure do you run while wheelin\'?

16.5s have no beadlip. That is what HUMMV wheels are for /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/burb.gif

I run 35 psi, the mud that I play in doesn't care what pressure I run.

You might be shocked if you actually aired down.

I have never actually tried it, but I will next time just to see. The mud I run in (our lake) is soft clay and really has no bottom so I always figured that pressure wouldn't matter. I also run 16.5's, so I don't want to go too low and loose a bead. I've seen a lot of trucks loose a bead in the deep stuff with 16.5's. Maybe it's time for 15's? /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

Reguardless to the resulting floatation, my tires have twice as many lugs on the ground at 10 PSI as at 20. Usually 5-6 lugs vs 3. Makes a huge difference in traction on any surface.

maybe its just my TSLs... but 15 psi makes the tires look more like they are ready for the street than the trail. The center of the tire is definitely starting to bulge more than the sides, much more than that and I'd have uneven tread wear etc.

I run 8 to 10 pounds on most things. In the snow I have gone to 4 pounds (!) and blew all four tires off at the same time! 6 pounds holds better.

The difference from 10 pounds to 4 pounds in the snow is amazing. You should be able to go to 10 pounds with no problem. I have only blown one bead at 10 pounds in many years and it was special circumstances.

If you have on board air, go for it. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

The 15" MTR's have a "C" rating, while the 16" have a "D" rating. It will take a bit less air to squat the 16" tire on the trail. I say 15-16 should work for your set up. Any lower and diffs seem to find the earth very fast. I am willing to run my 37's at 11-12psi for sand but I don't see sand often.

Re: What tire pressure do you run while wheelin\'?

Alot will depend on your weight and tire size. I run 44" tsl's on a 4500lb rig.

On street I run 8-10psi rear 13-15psi front
On trail I run 4psi rear and 6 psi front
Mud Bogs I run 3 psi rear and 4 psi front
Snow I run 1 psi rear and 2 psi front (only lost a bead once)

Yep here is a pic of the tires aired down to that on a bit of a side hill. The goal is to air down enough that you get the largest contact patch possible without rolling off the tread on a sidehill.

Never higher than 11-12 PSI.

38.5x16x15 TSL, 15x10 wheel

8psi on the Buzzard's Roost did just fine... /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

Re: What tire pressure do you run while wheelin\'?

I run 18 on the street. Any more and i would wear out the center lugs on my TSL's even faster.

Trail, i dont know. Whatever they end up at by the end of the day.

Re: What tire pressure do you run while wheelin\'?

I have not gotten over 15psi on my truck. It has yet to see the road, but if i drove on the road I would definately air up. But for wheeling I run 10. Once i get her goin again I'm going to try 5 or maybe 0 w/ the double beadlocks. Just to see how it works.
