looking at feul injection setup from the pick a part and rebuild it to make it work. What years should i look at and what year should i stay away from?

'87+ for the most part. Specific application carbed 454's lasted longer (not sure when they were completely gone domestically), but AFAIK, all R/V/C/K trucks were TBI from 1987 across the board, in the US.

If putting in an R/V truck, better to get the injection setup from the same body. Unless you like doing a lot of additional wiring. Half a dozen one way, six the other I suppose.

Thanks, the parts yard here only wants 25 bucks for the throtle body and 30 for the computer.

next question is there a way to take the stock harness and make it a stand alone unit without buying a $500 wiring harness?

Yes.

Your best bet would be to find a 1987 (or 1988-1991) with a 454 TBI, then everything will swap right over.

Yes, going to say that buying just the hard parts is a very expensive route. No reason not to use the stock harness, as long as you can find one that hasn't been hacked up.

That way you ensure you get everything. EFI swaps will nickle and dime you to death if you don't get it all at the same time.

And let me add, it pretty much IS separate already. IIRC the VSS and power feeds are about the only things integrated into the vehicle wiring harness, and *everything* unplugs.

Everything that is connected to something lol.

Yes, distributor. And everything connected to it, and every bracket that has stuff bolted to it that has components that have wires running to them. :)
