Comment from a web wheeling member of the peanut gallery:

There's a lot of talk on the skull 'n' bones board about how blowing a front shaft will knock teeth off an automatic and at the very worst grenade it. I have no personal experience and it doesn't sound like many of the guys that claim it "could happen" do either.

That being said, I'm happy with the l/s unit in my 60 for now but when it's time for a locker, a Detroit would probably get the nod but I'm interested in the new selectable from Teraflex, just wish someone would come up with something other than air to operate a selectable. :doah:
MISF had a Warn drive plate strip out it's teeth. That rapid unloading of the axle shaft fubar'd the Detroit.

That's enough for me to go the spool I've been thinking about. I'm going to add a twin stick setup to my t-case with the money I saved from not getting a $500 detroit. $200 spool + $200 twin sticks = $100 towards my gear installation. :D

I have never had a problem with my ARB. night and day when it is on or off, for traction and steering. only thing i am going to change to is a converted A6 compressor to run it as the ARB compressor is noisy and slow. I currently do not run a tank as i am afraid to run this little compressor for any amount of time. with the A6 (or york) you can get a good size tank and i have been told they are quieter.
My rear Detroit is indestructable, but i made the mistake of pulling my foot out of it too fast around a fast trail corner and as it locked up on the engine braking it put me on my lid. bent up the truck good and pissed of the girlfreind REAL bad (passenger). I need to just be more aware of its effects i guess.

right now, my K-10 is in stock trim as far as lockers. When I get the cash all im going to do is weld my rear diff, and lock the front with a detroit. 85% of my buddies run a welded rear diff, and it's fine. But, im not about to weld my front...NO WAY!

Anyone try an ox locker? Seems like a simpler solution than an ARB, if you want selectable.

I do not think that the Ox and the Detroit Electrac are good designs because they have the shift fork integrated into the diff cover. The ARB and E-Locker are where its at. However, the E-Locker is relatively unknown so far.

If it's trail only, you've got locking hubs, and proper steering, I say go with a Spool. They are just so damn strong and so damn cheap. Hard as hell to turn on a rock if you don't have some form of hydraulic steering though

detroit locker for the rear. detroit electrac for the front. I run 39.5 iroks w/ 5.13's on a d60 and 14 bolt. I have tried my buddies 42's and it worked great. I just don't have the money for them right know. I have way to many other projects on the blazer.
