in my tranny? it's starting to get on my nerves a little bit (sm465). i've been riding my POS bicycle alot recently, and it's got a sproket that's out of true so i can't seem to get away from gear chatter no matter how its done!

Lucas does a pretty good job of quieting gearboxes.

I may be develpoing the same problem as you. My 465 will make a clunky chattery noise only when I reach the top of 3rd gear before I up shift and then when driving on the highway in 4th depending on the throttle possition. Is what you are experiencing?
Put a quart of Lucas gear oil additive in! Its amazing stuff, my GMC's SM465 is nearly silent after adding it... Only time I hear anything is a slight whirr when I back up.

Sorry, but I'm going to ride your post colby. Can Lucas be added to the 465? What's the difference between syncromesh and syncronized gears? I bought oil for syncromesh, so can I add the Lucas without hurting anything? I already use it in the Tcase.
I've never run anything but 80w90 in my SM465s... I think it is just the NV3500 and NV4500s etc that need the syncromesh. They are quiet transmissions as it is, so I cannot imagine that you'd want to add Lucas additive to them anyways

Cool! I'll go pick up some Lucas today.My tranny isnt very loud, but I dont have a stereo, so that's all I hear when I'm driving.
just make sure you don't add too much, otherwise your oil will foam while you drive. If you've got a removable hump, pop the top off after your first long trip, and see if it looks like snot, or not
the newer nv series trannys have kevlar /carbon fiber coated syncros . and those trannys need the thin oil to reach all the areas better. dont add thick oil or additives to them. it will eat the tranny up in around 10k miles or less.

i'll keep that in mind for when it's useful to me... if i can ever get ahold of one of those.
I added about a quart, and haven't had any signs of foaming, but I haven't really gone on a trip longer than around the block yet
