When i let off the gas...

anyone know if the carrier my 14 bolt has (see pics on bottom of first page) will accept a locker like this:

or do i need to get a completely different carrier? Ive never messed around with lockers before so im somewhat clueless. Is that the original carrier with a locker inside or is it a special carrier for a certain type of locker. From what i can tell it was a military m1008 axle with a detroit.

I'm sure it would but why?

The Detroit is not much more and they have a $50 rebate going on...

Take yours out and look at it before you buy anything IMO.

Agree, a Detroit (however loud it might be) is the best option really.

Ok,.... My truck does the same thing. I've just come to live with it as nothing bad has happened. Like you I too just built my rig. The 700 trans is beefed and fresh. The 241 is fresh with a new chain. When I had my 208 in, it was also fresh. Both T-cases have SYE kits on them. My driveshaft, Detroit, and gears are all fresh. Competition motor mounts and fresh trans mount.

If I let off the gas quickly, I get a hard bang. I can hear it but more noticeable is the feeling. It feels like it's the T-case. Like it swings up and down, smacking something. However, I have a great big hole in the floor and can see the case; no movement. This is easily repeatable and at almost any speed. Sooooooo I don't release the gas quickly. Problem solved.

Also, I've only heard the locker once. I think I was turning and hit a little water, something like that, and got a small bang/jolt. Other than that, I never hear it ratchet. I did the test Detroit calls for and it's perfect, but I swear it never disengages, or at least I don't feel it. The only downfall is tire wear and when it likes to move the truck a smig side to side. Really though, it's the best thing ever for a rig.

okay thanks guys, yea the more i read, the more i think it may be normal operation. And i could describe the sound exactly like that, it sounded like it was the t-case. Seemed aweful loud to me, but maybe its normal. I just cant understand how something can make that loud of a noise and not be harming the drivetrain. But either way, im going to take the diff apart in the next couple days and see if i can make any conclusions. If the backlash is good and the locker tests okay, im not going to pull anything yet. I will drive it some more and see how it does, because ive only heard the noise once. anyway...thanks guys :thumb:

Take a long hard look at the driveshaft splines too, they might be hanging up under torque, then releasing with a bang when you unload it by letting off the gas--..

I have had a few trucks that would go "bang" after stopping fast, when I let off the brake,I found it was the splined yoke on the driveshaft was worn enough to let the splines get hung up in the yoke, them they would release with a bang and the rear of the truck would go down an inch or so..I tried greasing it good and it helped some, but still did it to some degree--I ended up buying a used driveshaft with tight splines and it never did it again..I was ready to buy a rear axle or tranny...

well i will be switching to a cv style driveshaft after i finishing examining the rear end, so i will be able to try that out. thanks
