i am in the need of a new rear end as the 12 bolt i have went to **** on me. I am looking for a cheap 14 bolt if anybody knows of one. or a 12 bolt if nothing in my budget can be found. here is an idea of what i would like to eventually look like... tell me what you think?

Where are the step sides?

Rusted out...

Haven't seen a Step Side in my state that didn't have a hole in it, seen a few where the ENTIRE fender were rusted right off.

I have, or had, a '78 SWB stepside but now the body is gone as I sold it all. I still have the rolling chassis though. Thinking about asking an old guy here in town for his mid-80's black stepside truck for the body to slap onto my '78 chassis. Its a cleaner body than the old '78 I had.

there's one down the street from me, but it's kind of beat. I only know of one other and that belonged to a crazy old neighbor of mine. Sure there's more, but rare. Wish there were more around cause they look great.

i hate not being able to axcess your pics.. as i cant afford to join yet...

yeah sorry about that i didnt have the pics of my truck uploaded yet, and it was the only decent side view truck i could find at the time....sweet truck bro... how well does the hydro assist work for you?

NO problem, it works very well I just need to add a small tank to hold extra power steering fluid and the cooler I have to it!

I have one...

Most of the stepsides here are either rotted away and have been crushed,or are highly prized street rod type 2wd's..no that many 4x4 's with stepside beds that are decent looking, the few I've seen are trashed for the most part--I have seen a few show truck quality 4x4's with stepside beds..but they are probably the one style of bed that sold the least around here..face it,you just cant put much in a 6' stepside, and the 8' ones aren't much better..I feel they are better LOOKING than a "fleetside" bed though...

I have an 82 K20, 6.2 diesel, with an 8' stepside bed..most folks here consider the 8' stepside the butt ugliest bed GM ever offered..not me!..I have an aluminum diamond plate toolbox in the front part of the bed,it helps hide the extra length..mine has some rot on the fenders around the dual gas tank doors, and the steps have a few tiny holes..I made "custom" covers for the steps out of an old diamond plate aluminum running board..still need to finish patching the fenders up..something I planned to have done already, along with 20 other things.. :doah:

Your's looks cherry for a 78! wish I lived in CA,then all of my vehicles wouldn't have been recycled into toyotas and hondas.. :(

I think that the late 70's 3/4 ton longbed stepsides didn't look all that bad. Someone around here used to have one.

hey, i can pull a 14bff out for you if you can come get it and pay me about $200. i live in norcal! over by marine world.

Here is a guy from our clubs stepside. But everything is tied on or has fell off. Rust is killing it. Chassis broke off not to long before this picture, but it is fixed now.

I bought a 79 Stepside a few months ago for $500 and parted it out. It was rotting out and the frame was bent. But i got some good parts from it. I never got around to taking picutres of it tho. Smitty, that '56 is gorgeous!
