Where can I get some...argent silver paint for my grille?

That looks fantastic. Thanks for digging this up. I will be using it on my rallies after i blast them. :waytogo:

It's held up very well. But it should be noted that my Blazer is only driven in the summer, and never in any kind of inclement weather. But it shows no sign of wear or fade at all for the time it's spent outside and driven, and still looks new.

Before I painted it I just cleaned it real good with some alcohol and sprayed it in my basement.

What's the condition of the bowtie on your grille? Mine was a bit faded and there's not replacement badge/decal sold seperately for those grilles so I painted it yellow (as you can see in the pic). However, I've seen recently that new '73-'74 grilles are now available from LMC and Top Banana. I don't know how good the quality is though. But being a simple piece of plastic with no moving parts I can't imagine quality being an issue.

Thanks Craig. My brother's Blazer sits outside everyday, and is only driven on nice weekend days. I know that prep is the most important thing with any painting project. I was just concerned that the ralley wheel paint you used is made for steel, rather than plastic. I might use some plastic-specific primer for good measure.

Yeah, I've seen those new grilles too. Its tempting, but I picked up this OEM one for $40, and its in great shape. No cracks, no missing mounting tabs, its solid. The original paint is just faded and is flaking off in some spots. The PO mounted the later model translucent yellow bowtie on it, over the original bowtie "sticker". I too have looked for that replacement sticker, with no success. Bummer. But we'll make it work.

So you painted that bowtie on your grille??? :eek1: Can't even tell! :waytogo: How did you do that?

Also, did you spray a clear coat over the silver paint?

Adam

No clearcoat, just the paint. Yeah I worried about the paint at first because as you mentioned, it's technically made for steel wheels. But it's held up awesome for 5 years.

You could post ten pictures a day of that thing and I would still take time to look at them.

My '73 was painted originally. I could see where the original paint had faded off and where there was still some remaining, mostly in the nooks and crannies.
