Have you consittered a swing out tire rack off the rear bumper ???? I've always liked the way those look, and how it free's up the inside.

I thought about it,but I rather have the tire inside, and away from the weather. /forums/images/graemlins/ears.gif

Don't know how much room it'd take up, but what comes to mind is the spare tire mount ya see in the back of the Pre-Runner trucks. The ones where the spare is mounted at a angle. Don't know if it'd work, just a thought.

Re: Where to mount 35\" spare?

I modified my stock one. I think if i wanted to I could fit a 37" tire with no problem. I will get some pics of it tonight for ya.

Re: Where to mount 35\" spare?

I have a '78 model Jimmy and I fit a 35" spare in the stock location with the stock mount. It took a little time to get it just right and I aired it down some, but it fit. It rubs the tailgate very lightly and barely touches the seat. The spare was worn and probably measures more like 34" or a little less, but it is a "fullsize" spare none the less. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

A worn 35 will just fit stock location. A flat new one will also fit. Just need to have a way to put air in it.

You could use the same on board air I use, it plugs into the cigarette lighter. It will not run an impact wrench, but it will air a tire up...eventually. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

My 35 MTR is flat on the floor behind the rr seat. I have anchors bolted to the floor and the spare is strapped the the anchors with two motorcycle straps.

Re: Where to mount 35\" spare?

I made the little bracket out of 1.5"x.25" angle iron and I tweaked the mount on the spare tire rack a little to sit flush with the angle iron. It needs to be welded I think, but that would probably be overkill. So far it has worked good, seat goes all the way back now and I think i have more room in the back than before too.

Re: Where to mount 35\" spare?

I keep mine attached to my roof rack. It isn't nearly as tough to get that up there as many may think. I am a short guy (5'4") and don't have any problems getting that 35" BFG MT up there. I am selling my rack pretty soon, if you're interested.

This may sound stupid but why? The other 4 are outside the only thing I could see about it being inside(besides from the look) is it would be harder for someone to steel it & theft protection is always a good thing
