Which dash speakers for a 89 K5?

It's a $100 active sub and has enough bass for me. I knew it'd easily fit under my k5's seat. That model was my second choice and I don't know how long it'll last. I Just had to run some 6awg from the batt and plug in the sub-out RCA's from the head unit, easy peasy 1 2 threesy

I'm very happy with the Kicker's in the dash and the sub! Took my sound system from sounding like it's 1989 to sounding like it's about 2003 :-)

Nice. How do you have the sub mounted? Im just looking for a little somethin somethin to give music more dimension and enhance the experience. A little bass can really change the experience. Not trying to enter into any competitions.

What was your first choice? And why didnt you go with it?

Ive got some 6x9’s next to the rear seats in the k5 (centered between front and rear seats on the side panels), so improving the dash speakers and adding a small sub will get me into 21st century as well!

It's not mounted yet. I'll probably just use some double stick Velcro (to the carpet) but it comes with mounting tabs and screws.

This is my first choice, it wouldn't have arrived before our road trip.

I'm in the same exact boat as you, no competitions and I have 6.5" Pyle's behind the front seats. It sounds great playing Baby Shark on loop ...

To remove your dash pad, first remove your dash bezel. Then the 4 screws across the bottom passenger side and one screw in the pass side door jam for 81+. If you have AC, now it's a good time to reach up under the dash and remove the duct work from the two dash vents.

From there, slide the dash pad back towards the seat until the clips near the windshield clear the sheetmetal. At this point the dash will be free to lift and continue sliding back. It is fairly easy to remove and not likely you will damage anything.

I vaguely recall years and years ago replacing both the front and rear K5 speakers was a problem, because no one made the sizes GM used.

But it looks like today, 3.5" speakers are quite commonly available for sale, and are what fit the front. Dunno about the rears (actually just looked, I see various 4x10s for sale too), have we seen an increase in the availability of speakers that fit, or just my imagination?

After Spending more time tweaking the EQ, LPF, HPF, Sub level and fade, this Took my sound system from sounding like it's 1989 to sounding like it's 20*1*3

Another question. Is the distance between the mounting screws 3.5"?

They make speaker covers (for those running speakers that aren't protected otherwise) that say 3.5", which list a 3.5" spacing for the screws. Can't find anything on various 3.5" speaker spec pages to verify that's how the speakers are measured.

I just dont trust all these unknown name manufacturers to meet the same standards.

Kickers had the same mounting screw spacing as stock, which is 4"

Wish all this would make a difference for my listening enjoyment in a vehicle.
Take care of your heart if you enjoy and value music.
If I am alone in a vehicle I can hear the melody, but not always understand the words, if the wife, or any body else is riding with me, can't hear it might as well be road noise.
I read these tunes update post and think maybe this or that update will help, all wishful thinking

Thanks for that! Really helps.

Looks like grilles for this size speaker are relatively uncommon. Found one on eBay that might need a little massaging/adapting to fit, but at least the screw spacing is correct.
